Jewel Changi Airport has officially opened, and one of the common questions is, “Where’s there to eat at JEWEL”. I will come to that.

With more than 280 shops and F&B outlets, visitors can look forward to the largest Nike store in Southeast Asia, Pokémon Centre, and Shaw Theatres with IMAX.

The majestic 40-metre HSBC Rain Vortex which is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, is quite a breath-taking sight and will probably soon being Singapore’s “most instagramamble spot”.

In terms of dining places, other than the heavily promoted “star” brands of Shake Shack Singapore, Burger and Lobster and A&W Restaurants, you can also look forward to other local brands such as Five Spice – the food court operated by Food Junction which includes stalls such as Faai Di by Ka-Soh and Fu Lin Yong Tofu.

Here are 20+ restaurants and concepts you can look forward at Jewel Changi Airport:

Shake Shack
#02-256
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm

Perhaps the most-anticipated opening in Jewel. Shake Shack fans call this THE BEST burger in the world, and the fast-casual restaurant has become an institution of sorts to visit for foodies.

Not too bad for this used-to-be humble hot dog cart which started in Madison Square Park.

The Singapore menu will feature Shake Shack’s signature items including the ShackBurger, Shack-cago Dog, classic crinkle-cut fries, and frozen custard ice-cream.

Get the SmokeShack ($10.90 for single, $14.40 for double) which features applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry peppers, in a buttered, toasted, in a soft potato roll.

Also look out for the Singapore-exclusive Pandan Shake ($7.80), included with vanilla frozen custard blended with pandan, coconut, all topped with Gula Melaka Crumble.

The crowd has been quite overwhelming, with the queue said to be more than 100 metres long, and anticipated wait time of at least 2-3 hours (to even 4 hours).

For those who head down during peak hours, you would need to be issued a ticket to be able to queue. Shake Shack Singapore (Jewel Changi Airport)

Burger & Lobster
#05-203
Opening Hours: 9am – 3am (Mon – Sun)

The brand of Burger & Lobsters, a UK chain, has been “wild and live” since 2011. It began with 4 schoolmates on a rooftop in London.

True to its founders’ original idea to limit the menu to a few items, there are only 3 main items available: Burgers, Lobsters, and Lobster Rolls.

Fans love their Original Roll ($40) which is lobster with Japanese mayo & lemon, that come in a toasted brioche bun.

As for the lobsters, you can choose from the Original ($65), or the JEWEL Exclusive of Sambal Glazed Lobster ($65).

The Sambal Glazed Lobster tasted sweet at the start with lingering spiciness, and the smokiness (as it was grilled) enhanced the satisfaction.

Similar to Chilli Crab, grilled brioche (instead of fried mantou) can be used as a dip for that added ‘buttery-ness’.

The new Burger & Lobster eatery in Singapore is located at Canopy Park, Jewel’s topmost floor, where diners will be treated to spectacular views of the verdant landscaping, and the majestic 40-metre high Rain Vortex, set to be the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. The Alley Singapore
#B2-273
Opening Hours: 24 Hours (Mon – Sun)

The Alley first started from Taichung, Taiwan, and has one main outlet in central Taipei. They are strong in their social media marketing, which really aided in their popularity.

The brand, represented by an iconic large-antlered deer, is famous for Deerioca, The Alley’s signature freshly-prepared hand-crafted tapioca pearls.

Manually measured, sifted, mixed and formed, the pearls achieve a better texture and aroma compared to its machine-produced counterparts.

During the soft launch phase at Jewel Changi Airport, The Alley Singapore will first introduce the 3 signature drinks such as the Brown Sugar Deerioca Fresh Milk ($5.30), followed by other beverages of Assam Black Milk Tea and Royal No.9 Milk Tea progressively.

Also, note that there will be a limit to 2 cups per pax during the soft launch and opening period. The Alley Singapore (Jewel Changi Airport)

JW360°
#01-223/224/225
Opening Hours: 9am – 11pm (Mon – Sun)

A new name to Singapore, JW360° is a concept store consisting of three operating divisions – Restaurant, Café and Retail.

JW360°’s menu is provided by Suju Restaurant, which provides a spread of items such as Tempura, various types of Tonkatsu (Japanese style cutlet such as pork, chicken breast / high cutler, shrimp etc), Teishoku, Bento, and Donburi.

The café is going to be one of the favourite places for many matcha lovers.

Expect desserts such as Matcha Baked Cheese Cake with Fig Wine Paste; Matcha Opera – layers of Matcha sponge, butter cream and ganache; Matcha with Sweet Beans Roll; Matcha Mont Blanc with Japanese chestnut paste; Matcha Mille Feuille with matcha butter, custard and sweet chestnut; Gateau Chocolat with Matcha Cream.

Do get your hands on the Matcha Mont Blanc before it gets sold out too soon. JW360° (Jewel Changi Aiport)

A&W Restaurants
#B2-209
Opening Hours: 24 Hours (Mon – Sun)
(Only takeaway drinks available from 3-7am

Welcome back, A&W. The eatery will offer all-time international favourites, such as Coney Dogs and A&W Root Beer floats.

The outlet at Jewel Changi Airport is offering classics including the Made Fresh A&W Root Beer ($2.90) served in the signature ice-cold frosty mug, Chicken/Beef Coney Dog ($5.20) and Curly Fries ($3.60).

Making its comeback are also all-time dessert favourites such as the Famous A&W Root Beer Float ($3.50) and Waffle Ice Cream ($7.90).

The menu also includes bestsellers from A&W Restaurants in the region, such as the Chicken/Beef Coney Cheese Fries (S$4.90) from the USA, Golden Aroma Chicken (from $3.20) from A&W Restaurants Indonesia, A&W Cream Cheese Chicken/Beef Burgers ($7.90) inspired from A&W Restaurants Okinawa, as well as the Waffle Sundae ($4.90) from A&W Restaurants Thailand.

The “nostalgia card” is probably one of its winning element. Warning: The queue is at least 1 to 2.5 hours long. A&W Restaurants (Jewel Changi Airport)

MAISON de PB by Paris Baguette
#02-200 Jewel Changi Airport, 80 Airport Boulevard, Singapore 819642

This “House of PB” is an enhanced and more upscale version of the Paris Baguette.

There is also a live grill station for orders of steak.

The upper level is done up contemporary restaurant-style, where you can order mains of Oven-Baked Chicken, Roasted Black Cod, Grilled Lamb Racks, and pastas such as Signature Seafood Pastaa and Royal Carbonara. Dishes change seasonally. Maison de PB (Jewel Changi Airport)

Kam’s Roast
#02-210
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Kam’s Roast’s flagship outlet in Hong Kong is a renowned one Michelin Star Restaurant which has been awarded Michelin Star by Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau within only 4 months of its opening in 2015.

A relatively new roast to get is the Pipa Duck. While most Singaporeans should be familiar with the usual Roast Duck and Peking Duck, the Pipa Duck is seldom seen.

The whole duck is typically split and flattened, looking like the Chinese musical instruction – therefore the name. While the cooking method adds to that layer of crunch to the skin, the succulence is not compromised.

Kam’s Roast’s offering should be considered Singapore’s first Pipa Duck marinated with 23-Year Aged Chenpi or Orange Peel.

The eatery will also offer Roast Ducks which are ready for takeaway to be brought on board, which I think is a favourable move.

Pink Fish
#B2-261/262
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Making its entry into Singapore and Southeast Asia at Jewel, Pink Fish, the world’s first fast-casual seafood restaurant, will offer a different spin to the typical notion of fast food.

Premium quality salmon directly sourced from the Norwegian fjords will be creatively served in delicious salads, wraps, burgers, hotpots and poké bowls.

Singaporeans are by-and-large not familiar with this brand.

Beauty In The Pot
#B2-224/225/226
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 6am, Last Order 4:30am (Mon – Sun)

Savour the essence of health and beauty with every steaming pot of soup at Beauty In The Pot.

Inspired by the culture of food for health, the hotpot concept offers nourishing soup that promise rich flavours coupled with abundant benefits.

An extensive menu of fresh ingredients and homemade specialities are also specially selected by the culinary team for a heavenly match.

Some of recommended items at Beauty in The Pot include the Homemade Fish Tofu – made with yellowtail fish, soya bean and egg white; Ebiko Prawn Paste shaped out of 100% prawn meat; Fried Beancurd Skin – my favourite especially when dipped quickly in the collagen broth; and Soft Bone Pork Meatballs.

With outlets at KINEX, The Centrepoint, and soon at Westgate, Star Vista and Jewel Changi Airport, they are indeed expanding on the hotpot empire which still has huge potential.

Violet Oon
#02-205/206
Opening Hours: 9am – 11pm (Mon – Sun)

Violet Oon’s largest restaurant to date. At more than 350 square metres the restaurant at Jewel will feature popular local delicacies such as Dry Laksa, Beef Rendang, Satays and Roti Jala.

Also available are food souvenirs such as Gula Melaka cake and pineapple tarts, which are great for locals to pick up gifts for overseas friends.

I suspect they have new investors, and thus the quick and major expansion. I still think there is a big segment of Singaporeans and foreigners who are not aware of the brand, so it is a good move to open an outlet here.

Putien
#02-249
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

One-Michelin Star PUTIEN Restaurant has launched its 62nd outlet (13th in Singapore) at Jewel Changi Airport.

The 128-seater features an open kitchen for a peek at the unique preparation of three dishes.

The 3 Classic Treasures of Fujian include PUTIEN Bian Rou Soup (pork meat wrappers in traditional soup), ‘100-Second’ Stewed Yellow Croaker (from Ningde, in the coastal province of Fujian), and the signature PUTIEN Lor Mee.

Also available are succulent and fleshy DUOTOU Clams prepared in eight different ways. Among them are two new flavours spicy flavours – Stir-fried Sambal Chives with DUOTOU Clam and Thai-flavoured DUOTOU Clam.

Sama Sama by Tok-Tok
#03-225/226
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Sama Sama by Tok-Tok is the latest restaurant concept conceived from Tok Tok Indonesian Soup House, offering mouth-watering varieties of authentic Indonesian cuisine in Singapore.

Order the Ayam Bakar Taliwang ($29), a spicy dish that gives you a hefty 500g of whole chicken.

Its signature marinating process is done Lombok-style where the whole chicken is spiced with freshly pounded black peppercorns and purified sea salt.

Once well-seasoned, the chicken is grilled whole until fork-tender juicy. It is best paired with Plecing Kangkung, a steamed water spinach side dish topped with tomato chili sambal.

Tim Ho Wan
#02-223
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Tim Ho Wan was started by Chef Mak Kwai Pui, formerly of the prestigious three Michelin starred Lung King Heen restaurant in Hong Kong’s Four Seasons Hotel, alongside Chef Leung Fai Keung.

Look out for the Hong Kong Braised Beef Soup Noodle. This noodle soup dish may just ‘bring’ you back to Hong Kong. Made with thin and perfectly springy Hong Kong-style noodles, this soup is loaded with Chinese spices and deep beef flavours.

The dim sum ‘dessert’ to have is the Sesame Balls with Molten Salted Egg.

Imagine sinking your teeth into a fragrant sesame-crusted ball until you feel the ooze of hot liquid egg yolk in your mouth.

Yun Nans
#02-217
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm

Yun Hai Yao (云海肴) is the largest Yunnan F&B chain in the world, with over 150 outlets, and this brand is the first out of China.

The restaurant specialises in gao yuan liao li, with signature dish of Steamed Pot Chicken Soup.

The soup uses only a special breed of black feet chickens, brewed using a unique technique that does not require a single drop of water.

There will also be specialities exclusively available in Singapore such as the Yunnan Rice Noodles in Prawn Broth with Black Truffle.

Tonito Latin American Kitchen
#02-248
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

A brand-new Latin American concept that promises an authentic taste of countries like Mexico, Peru, Argentina, etc. Featuring a wide selection of Mexican Tacos and Quesadillas, Latin American Sandwiches like Argentinian choripanes and Peruvian Pan con Chicharron.

Signature items include Huevos Rancheros of 2 eggs, Black Beans, Salsa Roja, Cotija, Pico de Gallo, Tortilla Chips, Coriander; Mexican Esquites, Tacos, Quesadilla, Tacos, and Argentinian Choripan.

Not all Latin American and Mexican brands do well in Singapore. A lot will depend on the branding, the PMEBs and millennial seem more accepting of varied range of foods.

Shiki Hototogitsu Ramen
#B1-300
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Its parent shop – Sobahouse Kiniro Hototogisu 金色不如帰 from Tokyo was awarded a Michelin Star in the Tokyo Michelin Guide.

This is its 4th outlet in Singapore, and offers ramen inspired by the four seasons – Cherry blossom (Spring), Young Bittergourd and bamboo shoot (Summer), A variety of mushrooms and porcini (Autumn), and Salmon (Winter).

Each bowl is priced at $15.90.

Also offered is a range of matcha desserts from matcha dessert brand, Kagurazaka Saryo. Other signature items include Frozen Smores and Cha-Nabe, a one-pot soup dish served in colourful Le Creuset pots.

Emack & Bolio’s
#B2-234
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Famed for their outrageous ice cream flavour combinations, you literally have to leave your diet and calorie count at the door.

Just let your cravings guide you to choose from two dozen different available flavours.

Besides the ice cream looking really fun, Emack & Bolio’s promises to use ingredients of the highest quality – they don’t add dyes or use milk from genetically hormone-induced cows.

The ice cream cones are not that cheap though, priced at $9 for a single scoop with waffle cone, and $10.00 for a scoop with chocolate cone or marshmallow cone.

To get a more “instagrammable” shot, be prepared to pay quite a bit – 2 scoops at $15.50, or 3 scoops at $21.50. That’s without the cones. Emack & Bolio’s (Jewel Changi Airport)

O’Tah
#B2-241
Opening Hours: 24 Hours (Mon – Sun)

A new concept by famous Otah brand Lee Wee & Brothers.

The chefs have put a new spin on the classic otah, embedding new treasures within minced mackerel that is marinated and mixed with a homemade spice paste.

There are four offerings: Pink Salmon Otah, Scallop Otah, Cream Cheese & Corn Otah, and Petai & Anchovy Otah.

Try the O’tah Fries which are hand-cut pieces mackerel fish accompanied with shoestring potato fries.

Rich & Good Cake Shop
#01-232
Opening Hours: 9am – 11pm (Mon – Sun)

Rich and Good Cake Shop, is known for its old-school Swiss Rolls, shaped like a rolled-up towel with soft and fluffy texture.

The Swiss Rolls are currently priced at $9.00 for the standard flavours of chocolate, coffee, strawberry, blueberry; and $10 for premium flavours of red velvet, kaya, durian, mango, orange and green tea.

Over at the Jewel Changi Airport outlet, there are offerings of mini rolls (half the size) at $5 and $5.50 depending on the flavours.

Lavender
#B2-253/254
Opening Hours: 10:00am – 10:00pm

Popular bakery and patisserie Lavender from Malaysia has arrived in Singapore. Well, that means you don’t have to cross the Causeway to get hold of their bakes (but there still a lot cheaper lah.)

Birds Of Paradise (Within In Good Company)
#01-214/215/216
Opening Hours: 12pm – 11pm (Mon – Sun)

Birds Of Paradise has opened its 2nd outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, collaborated with local fashion label In Good Company.

The Michelin-recommended gelato shop is so named because the shop creates gelato inspired by the botanical flavours of nature.

That means fruits, flowers, pods, herbs, and spices.

Look out for its varied interesting flavours, from the creamy tarty-sweet Mango, floral-flavoured White Chrysanthemum with bits of cacao nibs, and delicate Lychee Raspberry. Birds Of Paradise (Jewel Changi Airport)

  1. Nice detailed article. I visited Jewel yesterday for the preview. This article was acted as my guide to explore the restaurants. Lots of extended hours and 24 hours options to dine and drink.

  2. Jewel Changi Airport has certainly given us all another reason to love the East. With uncountable places to eat till your heart’s content, it’s definitely the place I’ll find myself regularly visiting for now. A day just isn’t enough to even scratch the tip of this iceberg!
