Bagels cafes are continuing to be popular in Singapore, offering various exciting Bagelwich choices with local flavours and ingredients.
Wooly’s Bagels, a Muslim-owned establishment offering an array of stuffed bagels, has recently opened its doors at Arab Street.
There are two other outlets along Rangoon Road and Joo Chiat.
While the menu seems learn, it provides a variety of bagel options, including Plain, Cheese, Garlic, Sesame, and Tuscan Pizza (+$0.50) bagels.
There are also various options such as GTF Bagel ($15.50), 5Cs of Singapore ($18.50), Barnyard Birdie ($18), Bagel & Lox ($19), Otah with Coconut Chilli Mayo ($17) to Chonk Chunk Tuna ($21).
Prices have increased a fair bit since they started out though.
I was most keen to try the GTF Bagel ($15.50) which is loaded with chicken meat loaf, scrambled or sunny side eggs, hash browns, and truffle mayo.
At its heart, this Bagelwich features a thick slice of chicken meatloaf, reminiscent of spam but with a more refined, savoury flavour.
The inclusion of a crispy hash brown added another layer of texture.
Its golden, crunchy exterior gave way to a soft, warm interior.
All of these elements were encased in Wooly’s signature bagel, which was fresh, softly-chewy, and slightly crusty – just as a good bagel should be.
The bagel held up well to the generous fillings, maintaining its integrity till the last bite.
Another popular offering is the Otah with Coconut Chili Mayo Bagel ($17), featuring mackerel otah slices, coconut lime mayonnaise, and sunny side-up eggs.
The otah were sliced rather thick to give you the full texture and sauced-up experience.
Wooly’s Bagels stands out for its unique local fusion elements and is worth a try for those seeking a different take on the traditional Bagel sandwich.
