[Bangkok] In the area of Phloen Chit surrounded by office buildings, Bangkok’s RISE COFFEE interior looks like a spaceship about to lift off.

A roasting lab and flagship store all together founded by Kasidis Laoboonmee, the DNA of RISE COFFEE is easily gleaned when you step across the threshold into the café.

It is unlike the usual white-minimalist, Scandinavian, Japanese zen or industrial-chic that many other hipster cafes in Bangkok are going for.

While the flagship store is located a very short walk from Phloen Chit BTS (and Central Embasssy, Bumrungrad International Hospital etc), it does take a while to find the place at the back of Mahatun Plaza.

But you could see that it stands out from the other shops from a distance.

The modern industrial design draws focus to the main counter at the center of the space, constructed mainly with angled metal bars.

It is on this sleek counter where the baristas display the baked goods, pull beautiful shots of espresso, and hand out cups after cups of coffee.

Around the café, the only colours breaking the monotony of the dominating tintless white are the orange accented plywood lining the glass panels, which separates the roasting lab from the common space.

When you enjoy your cup of coffee, you can also watch focused roasters experimenting with techniques in the micro-roastery to improve the quality experience of customers.

RISE COFFEE

The end products of the effort are unassuming cups of coffee that are pulled to precision, along with many other instagrammable drinks such as Black Fizz (135 THB), Orange Wafer Latte (135 THB), to Miso Apple (135 THB).

They also sell their house-roasted beans and even coffee capsules with choices of Good Day Blend (medium roast, orange, smooth chocolate, caramel), Bold Move (toffee nut, dark chocolate, creamy mouthfeel), and Dreamer (cherry jam, prune, hibiscus).

Have the Espresso (75 THB) or Iced Americano (80 THB) to taste the difference it makes when the bean-to-table process is carefully controlled.

The calibrated coffee-making process has borne fruit in the intense and enjoyable cup of espresso.

RISE COFFEE

You can get a cup of Flat White (85 THB), where the additional milkiness adds to the complexity of the slightly bitter flavour profile.

The signature drink, Orange Wafer Latte (135 THB), is topped with lemon crumble and orange sauce to turn the coffee into a dessert-like drink.

It is photogenic, surprising, though a little heavy.

RISE COFFEE

It is comparable to the real desserts on the menu, including the Ultimate Banana Bread (80 THB), Corn-Fused Cookie (85 THB), Incredible Blondie (95 THB), Tiramisu Cookie (80 THB) among others.

The next time you are looking for coffee in a unique-sleek space at Phloen Chit, this is one place to be.
