Legendary Hong Kong which in a 4-in-1 themed Hong Kong restaurant and café in Singapore, has opened a new outlet at the basement of Funan (City Hall MRT).

Compared to the original outlet, this is a much smaller space (located next to Toast Box), with a scaled-down menu specialising in items such as Cart Noodle, Hong Kong style Hamburger, French Toast and drinks.

So no, unfortunately their popular dim sum is not available here. Online reviews also not very fantastic here (2.8 on Google last checked).

Legendary Hong Kong

There was say about a 30 minutes’ queue when I visited. However, as instructions were not that clear, some customers actually walked right into the store without realising there was a line on the side.

To save on time, you take an order-chit at the door and select your preferred items by ticking first.

Hong Kong Cart Noodles or che zai mian are not that commonly found in Singapore, containing various ingredients such as fish balls, beef brisket, satay beef, and beancurd puffs, tossed in sauces such as curry.

There were previously a couple of such cha chaan teng in Singapore selling these, but some have closed or not offering them anymore.

Legendary Hong Kong

Over at Legendary Hong Kong at Funan, customers can choose various styles of noodles ($2 onwards depending on ingredients) including thin egg noodles, thick rice noodles, yellow noodles, or flat rice noodles, to be served in clear broth or tossed in sauces.

There are options of satay, curry and home-made chilli bases.

Mix-and-match with ingredients such as pork chop ($2.50), pig’s skin ($1.50), curry squid ($1.50), luncheon meat ($1.50), fried egg ($1), chicken claw ($2.50), chicken wing ($2), to braised egg ($1).

To be honest, I wasn’t the greatest fan of this rendition – served in a disposable plastic ware even though I was dining-in.

While the ingredients picked such as the flavourful chicken fillet and curry fish balls worked in a way, the curry sauce somehow didn’t gel that well with the egg noodles.

Legendary Hong Kong

The other specialty here are the Hong Kong style burgers ($5 onwards), in which you can choose between “custard-crusted bun” which is essentially their famed Bolo Bun, or crispy bun.

As for the fillings, these include luncheon meat & egg, chicken fillet, satay beef slices, BBQ pork, pork chop, corn beef & egg, to fried egg.

The crisp baguette-style bun had well-seasoned pork chop within, though I wished the slab wasn’t cut up into smaller slices so that it would have a more substantial bite.

Legendary Hong Kong

Also available on the menu was French Toast ($4.50) of thick and moderately fluffy egg bread topped with generous serving of butter. Not bad.

The drinks such as the Hong Kong style Milk Tea ($3.60) and Watercress Honey ($3.60) were quite authentic-tasting as well.

This Hong Kong cafe should work for a fuss-free meal, but may not be that worth for a long queue – at least for the food offerings at this point in time.
