Bonjour! France, especially Paris has been closely related to romance.

To feel these romantic vibes with some Croissant, Croque Monsieur, Crepe, and Bouillabaisse, here are 12 French-style in Singapore you can head to:

Merci Marcel – Orchard
390 Orchard Road, #01-03/04, Palais Renaissance Singapore 238871
Opening Hours: 8am – 10:30pm (Mon – Sun)

French Lifestyle Cafe At Orchard With Beautiful Bohemian-Chic Outdoor Space
Let’s just say that Merci Marcel has done it with successful outlets at Tiong Bahru and Club Street and lifestyle concept at Orchard Road.

An outdoor seating that is actually quite cooling awaits for those who loves some natural daylight and occasional people-watching; or more boutique-bar like interior with rows of French Rosé as a backdrop.

The all-day dining destination has quite a number of highlight dishes on its menu, including Ravioles de Royans ($18, $28)– French dumpling pasta filled with cheese & spinach, foie gras emulsion, Atlantic Wild Cod ($34), Barramundi Tartare ($23), Smoked Haddock Salad ($18), and of course the trending Impossible Marcel Burger ($28).

For desserts, there is the Crepe Mercel with tiramisu emulsion ($12), and Pineapple Carpaccio ($11) which my friend described as the best sweet thing she had in a while. Merci Marcel (Orchard)

Tel No.: +65 6980 7768 (Bistro) +65 6980 7767 (Retail)

French Comfort Food and Retail Near Orchard Road
Famous awarded French chef, Frederic Coiffé opens So France’s newest outlet near Singapore’s famed retail street Orchard Road.

So France @Claymore opened at the more subdued end of Orchard Road. This modern French bistro has a sprawling dining room, the perfect venue to rendezvous with French bistro classics and fine wines.

Menu is all about authentic French comfort food, and covers everything from Breakfast (until 11am), Brunch (Weekend only, until 3pm), Lunch (Weekday only, from 11:30am until 2pm), Afternoon Delights, Dinner to Desserts and Wines.

It’s wine heaven for the afficionados with more than 100 different wines, wines from beloved appellations including Bordeaux and Burgundy, as well as smaller producers in areas such as Côtes de Gascogne.

Pair your morning coffee with sweet or savoury crepes, or any of their Weekend Favourites like Duck Conf’wich ($28), a sandwich of shredded duck confit, foie gras, rocket, confit shallot, and mustard; French Toast ($18) with caramelised apples, whipped cream and caramel sauce; Madame Croq’ ($24), their own version of the classic Croque Monsieur with 1 egg, and more.

Also try their signature So France Beef Burgers ($28) made with a sourdough bun; the juicy beef patty is accompanied with onions confit, raclette cheese and served with French fries.

But for a more sophisticated choice, go for the French Limousin Beef ($130) a Côte de Bœuf (Prime Rib) served with mash potatoes, spinach, and Bordelaise sauce. For extreme indulgence, add a pan seared foie gras for $18.

French Fold – Orchard
390 Orchard Road, #01-02, Palais Renaissance, Singapore 238871
Opening Hours: 9am – 10:30pm (Mon – Sun)

French Cafe With Galettes And Crepes At Palais Renaissance
French Fold by the Merci Marcel Group has another new outlet at Palais Renaissance Orchard Road.

Opened from 9am all the way till 10:30pm, look out for a refreshed menu which incorporates local flavours in French Galettes and Crepes, alongside a revamped cocktail menu.

A Galette is somewhat like a pancake made with buckwheat flour usually with a savoury filling.

There are no fancy names in the Galette offerings here, all named after numbers here like No.1, No.2 and No.3.

If you have been a regular of French Fold and want something interesting, order the new No. 11 ($22) with yellow curry base served with fresh sauteed shrimps layered with leeks fondue, and onions; and No.14 ($18) with tandoori coconut milk sauce, pineapple, and succulent chunks of chicken.

I actually preferred the sweet crepe better, with the No.25 ($10, +$4 for gelato) drizzled with homemade hazelnut spread – somewhat like the Nutella crepe.

The gelato is sourced from local artisanal gelato brand Birds of Paradise with a selection including hojicha seasalt, strawberry basil, and dark chocolate sorbet. French Fold (Orchard)

Chez Suzette
5 Teck Lim Road, Singapore 088383
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 10pm (Mon, Wed – Sat), 8:30am – 5pm (Sun), Closed Tues

Gorgeous French-Style Double-Storey Cafe With Crepes, Pancakes And All-Day Breakfast
Named after co-owner Suzette Simon, Chez Suzette is the brainchild of the husband-and-wife team, who first met while working at 3 Michelin Stars restaurant, Joël Robuchon.

Occupying 2 storey with both 8 seats indoors and 16 seats in the alfresco dining area, French elements are incorporated in the interior design.

My favourite corner is their alfresco dining space, the patio which is the paved outdoor area with tall ceilings, hanging fans, huge plants and ample sunlight shining through in the morning that create the lush space.

Their menu starts from 8.30am with All-Day Breakfast such as Egg Mayo Croissant ($8), Avocado Toast ($14), Eggs Benedict with Parma Ham or Salmon ($16), Croque Monsieur ($14), Beetroot Burrata Salad (2 pax $32), Dippy Eggs with Toast Soldiers ($7), Pancakes with Berries ($16) and Homemade Granola Bowls with Yogurt ($13).

I particularly enjoyed the Eggs Benedict ($16) that comes with a choice of Parma Ham or Salmon, which is considered a staple in most brunch places.

While most places served their poached eggs on a huge slice of brioche or sourdough, the version here is served on mini brioche with a fluffy texture almost like a muffin. Chez Suzette (Teck Lim Road)

Café & Bar Gavroche
69 Tras Street Singapore 079008
Tel No. +65 6225 4869
Opening Hours: 11:30am – Midnight (Mon-Fri); 10:30am – Midnight (Sat); Closed Sunday

French Café concept by Brasserie Gavroche
Experience joie de vivre at Café & Bar Gavroche, a charming Parisian café helmed by chef owner Frederic Colin.

Be transported to French in an instant with its cobblestone floor, wicker chairs, and the whiff of fresh-baked breads and fresh-brewed coffee. Watch the world go as you indulge in the finer things of life.

Strategically located just across Brasserie Gavroche (also Chef Frederic’s restaurant) for more dining options. It’s open til midnight so it’s an ideal venue for after-dinner drinks. They offer a vast selection of wines sourced from all over France.

As for the food, you don’t want to miss their selection of Les Tartines Gavroche ($9-$18) with 14 delectable toppings on freshly baked bread. Try Smoked Salmon ($18) with scrambled eggs and fresh herbs; Melted Raclette Cheese ($18) with air-dried beef and mustard; Smoked Pork Belly ($18) with Reblochon cheese; Tapenade Olives ($10) with fresh tomatoes, and more.

On weekends, why not give yourself a break and savour a leisurely breakfast on Tras Street like a Parisian? The Weekend Breakfast A La Française features hearty portions of freshly baked croissants, the signature croque-monsieur, and pastries, together with French jams and egg dishes.

HENRI
48 Pekin Street, #01-01, Singapore 048778
Opening Hours: 8am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

French Cafe & Bistro That Is Pets-Friendly At Telok Ayer
Not to be confused with Henri Charpentier, HENRI is opened by the folks behind Bread & Hearth and wholesale bread supplier Sourdough Factory.

While Bread and Hearth focuses on European styled bread and pastries, HENRI on the other hand specialises in French-style artisanal bakes, all using imported flour and ingredients.

The interior has a deep, mellow and earthly touch, fully decked in solid mahogany wood with a classic French style in their interior, equipped with French vintage canvas on the walls.

Their bakery section starts from 8am to 4pm daily, with 2 tables indoors and 6 pets-friendly outdoor seating space for dining in.

A wide assortment of Viennoiseries and pastries are available on the shelves; From classic Croissant ($3.50) to Raisin Roll ($3.80), Pecan Cranberries ($3.50), Chocolat Twist ($4.20), Almond Croissant ($4.50), Butterhorn ($3.70), Cheese Danish ($3.90), Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3.50) and Quiche ($7.50).

My favourite was the Cheese Danish ($3.90), with in-house cream cheese that is light and slightly sweetened with a smooth texture stuffed within the crispy, flaky and buttery Danish crust.

The remaining 20-seaters space indoors is opened for Lunch (12pm to 3pm) and Dinner (6pm to 10pm) services. Henri (Pekin Street)

Le Jardin Restaurant
5 Cox Terrace, Level 2, Fort Canning Arts Centre, Singapore 179620
Opening Hours: 9am – 8pm (Mon – Sun)

Beautiful Floral-Themed Pets-Friendly French Concept At Fort Canning
Cafe Do Nicole’s Flower is not unfamiliar to many who stayed in the East, a cafe which opened in 2019 with an ambience that is unlike many cafes. Thus, expectations are high for its sister concept – Le Jardin Restaurant.

Nestled at the Fort Canning Arts Centre, their focus is on French and European cuisine with both indoors and alfresco dining areas.

The 120-seater space has a garden theme outdoors which is pets-friendly, equipped with marble table tops and vintage, retro-style rattan chairs and vase of fresh flowers on each table.

Stepping inside, the interior has a Victorian vibe, with a centrepiece showcasing all the fresh flowers available for purchase at their florist section.

Their Breakfast and Brunch menu starts from opening till 4.30pm, whereas Lunch menu is available from 12pm to 3.30pm and Dinner is available from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

Brunch items featured are Croissant Waffle ($23.90), Potato Rosti ($18.90), Portobello Mushroom ($16.90), and Fig & Salted Caramel French Toast ($21.90).

Some mains include Forest Mushroom Tagliatelle ($20), Argentinian Red Shrimp Tagliatelle ($22), Ora King Salmon ($30), Kurobuta Pork Loin ($34), and Margaret River Black Angus Ribeye ($42). It wasn’t immediately clear how ‘French’ these dishes were though. Le Jardin (Fort Canning)

Choupinette
607 Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 269708
Tel No.: +65 6466 0613
Opening Hours: 8am – 6pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

French Café At Bukit Timah That Has Been Around For 20 Years
Tucked in the Bukit Timah enclave is Choupinette, a quaint cafe serving up classic French dishes since 2002.

It is a charming gastronomic sanctuary for French-style breakfast, brunch, lunch, teatime, and all-day dining.

Regular patrons rave about their special Eggs Benedict ($19 a la carte; $26 as a set), featuring two perfectly poached eggs nestled with ham on a toast, drizzled with their signature creamy Hollandaise. A set comes with fruit juice and choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

Just as popular are Eggs Royale and Eggs Florentine, and a variety of all-day brunch items made for your ultimate comfort food experience.

Classic French faves include the Croque Monsieur, an open-faced ham sandwich topped with melted cheese, and the Quiche of the Day.

The café doubles as a bakery, filling the air with that freshly-baked-bread aroma. Rows of rustic wooden baskets are decked with homemade loaves like Pain A L’ancienne ($8.90) French Baguette ($3.30), Sourdough ($7.90), Country Bread ($6.30), Fougasse ($2.50 small/$3.60 medium), and more.

Don’t forget to leave space for a quintessential French dessert like Tarte aux Pommes ($9.50), a fresh baked apple tart served with vanilla ice cream; or the divinely torched Crème Brulee ($9.50).

PAUL Bakery
Tanglin Mall #01-16/17, 163 Tanglin Road Singapore 247933
Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm (Mon – Thurs), 8am – 9pm (Fri – Sun)

PAUL is the familiar French family bakery & patisserie founded in 1889, known for using authentic French ingredients in their bread, pastries, viennoiserie and cakes.

The PAUL tea-rooms offer French style meals, ranging from savoury and sweet pastries, a selection of salads, all-day breakfast, mains to French pancakes – all prepared on the premises.

Even if you are a regular to PAUL Bakery, they have recently done a revamp with exciting offerings.

Angelina Singapore
2 Bayfront Avenue, Canal Level #B2-89/89A, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore 018972
Opening Hours: 11am – 9pm (Sun – Thurs), 11am – 10pm (Fri – Sat)

Angelina is the Parisian tearoom famous for their Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate “L’Africain”, signature cake Mont Blanc and brunch items.

If there are only two items you need to have, it would be their defining signatures – the Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate “L’Africain” and Mont Blanc.

The hot chocolate remains as one of my favourites, made with three different kinds of African cocoa from Niger, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoir, served in an elegant pitcher alongside a little cup of whipped cream.

(Do you know: Angelina has a history from 1903, where Proust and Coco Chanel have been customers at the tearoom room at Rue Du Rivoli in Paris. “Angelina” was named after the founder’s daughter-in-law, Angeline Rumpelmayer.)

Take sips, not gulps, and just relish that rich, velvety dark chocolate in small delightful nips.

Add some cream, share with a friend. Drinking that alone could result in some ‘over-heatiness’.

Entre-Nous Creperie
27 Seah Street #01-01 Singapore 188383
Tel: +65 6333 4671
Opening Hours: 12pm – 2:30pm, 6pm – 9:30pm (Tue – Fri), 11am – 9:30pm (Sat), 11am – 5:30pm (Sun), Closed Mon

Since 2008, Entre-Nous has delighted gourmands with its authentic Breton-style crepes.

They even import certified organic flour, beer, and artisanal apple cider from Brittany to provide diners the best Breton experience in Singapore.

Choose from 17 kinds of galettes, which are savoury crepes made with buckwheat flour and homemade fillings.

Narrow your choice with these Chef-recommendations: Entre-Nous ($21.90) with avocado, mashed with cream and garlic, prawns and tomatoes; Stephan’s Favourite ($21.90) with roasted chicken, wholegrain mustard, and homemade caramelised onions); and La Ouessant ($21.90) with egg, ham, Emmental cheese, fresh button mushrooms with cream sauce).

On to the sweeter side is their variety of crepes. It’s a must to order the house special ENTRE-NOUS ($9.90) prepared with homemade salted butter caramel.
