If visiting Johor Bahru is a weekly affair for you, then Beans.Factory 逗.工厂 may not be new to you.

For those finding out about the dessert café for the first time, Beans.Factory is a dessert brand from Malaysia, with more than 10 outlets across the main cities.

Their signature is the beancurd, or as the more traditional name goes, tau fu fah.

There are also shaved ice, grass jelly, and aiyu jelly desserts. So it is somewhat similar to the Taiwanese dessert chains all around.

100AM Mall at Tanjong Pagar is a not-too-bad an accessible location for a dessert café, especially for those looking to get a quick sweet fix after lunch.

They take up an open plan area in the first floor, which means that there is not much interior to speak of. Seating would be limited at rush hours, so takeaways are more convenient.

When you do order the desserts for dine-in though, it gets served to you on a nice wooden tray with a shiny golden spoon.

For all the desserts, you can choose your preferred sugar base, between brown sugar, sugar, and Bentong Ginger Syrup.

I had to get the Beans.Factory Signature Tau Fu Fah ($8.90). Apart from the silky smooth beancurd, it is decked out with taro balls, peach gum, and grass jelly.

The combination keeps it interesting, going from melt-in-your-mouth goodness to chewiness and then more. I think the portion size is even good enough to go around two persons.

The texture of the beancurd alone did remind me of Lao Ban’s – more like a pudding texture.

It was then the Beans.Factory told me to try the warm version in future, because the texture would be completely different. Which I did in a repeat visit.

This time I tried the Matcha Red Bean Tau Fu Fah ($7.50), and this tasted closer to the tau hway we are more familiar with, complete with a distinct beany flavour.

There are a bunch of other choices, but something more different is the Reunion Tau Fu Fah ($8.90) that comes with sesame balls and glutinous rice balls, or just the Signature Tau Fu Fah ($4.90) on its own.

Shaved Ice wise, the Beans.Factory Taro Ice ($9.50) is the best seller. The special thing about the bowl of dessert is how the shaved ice is made from soya milk. The silkiness definitely comes through, complemented by boba pearls, taro ball, peach gum, and grass jelly.

The Honey Lemon Aiyu ($5.90) was also pretty refreshing.

I do think potential customers may find the pricing of Beans.Factory on a higher side, especially when they compare to say Nine Fresh Desserts. This comes with a nice sitting area though, so give it a try.
