Shaved ice is here to stay (and not just bingsu), and in fact with more competitors joining the fray.

Yang Xiao Xian Mango Milk Ice 杨小贤, known its ultra-upsized Taiwanese-style snow ice desserts, has arrived in the basement of Orchard Gateway.

Its bright and spacious store has basically just an orange and white palette to deliver the motif of a ripe mango on snow ice.

Their rendition of the summer dessert is known for the fine shavings that melts in your mouth with every spoonful.

It also allows them to fill up the bowl with all sorts of toppings and ingredients as the shaved ice will always be very complementary.

BUT first, let’s talk a little about the price.

There is the Super Mango Milk Ice ($33), a heaping tower that is enough for at least three to five people. Would you want to gather a few friends and challenge this?

Don’t think there would be anywhere in Taiwan that would serve up Iced Dessert of this pricing?

There is also a “member pricing” of $28.80 in which diners have to sign up online to get discounted pricing.

Some personal data aside, the online menu was not that intuitive anyway.

This seems to be a ‘trend’ especially among Chinese-based companies, that consumers may soon have to accept.

For a smaller portion, the regular Mango Milk Ice ($22, member price $16.80) is probably the way to go.

Large mango cubes are sliding down the sides of the snow ice, together with finer mango puree and sauce.

While the mangoes were sweet and iced fluffy, but I am not entirely sure if this is worth its pricing (especially the non-member ones).

Apart from the mango snow ice, other recommended flavours include Strawberry Milk Snow Ice ($24) and Mango Durian Snow Ice ($24).

Inject more spice into the dessert with the choice of add-ons, including Mixed Taro Balls ($4), Yam Paste ($1), Grass Jelly ($2), and more.

If a moment of indulgence is all that is needed, try out their range of milk teas. This includes the Red Bean Pudding Milk Tea ($11), Yam Milk Tea ($10) and Pure Milk Tea ($10).

Good to have another dessert place in the heart of town anyway.
