Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee, formerly known as “Fishball Minced Meat Noodle”, has returned to the scene after a brief hiatus.

The stall previously situated in the Broadway Food Court of Sim Lim Square, has been given a fresh start.

“Papa Tan” and his partner have taken the reins, determined to carry on Grandpa Ng’s cherished legacy.

They are deeply appreciative of the support they have received, especially as they adjust to their new location.

So what’s so special about this Bak Chor Mee?

Apparently, this humble stall boasts a loyal fanbase that includes none other than Mandopop sensation JJ Lin, who featured the stall on his Netflix show “J-Style Trip”.

JJ Lin even introduced Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou to this unassuming establishment back in 2018 (It’s on Episode 2 – I just re-watched it.)

With such endorsements, Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee certainly has some culinary credentials.

Now, you can find this stall at Meet @ 55 Lengkok Bahru, a short walk from Redhill MRT Station.

Items on the menu include Signature Bak Chor Mee ($5), Mini Pot Noodles ($6), Dumpling Noodles ($4, $5), Handmade Fish Ball Noodles ($3.50, $4.50), to Fried Dumpling Noodles ($4, $5).

The star is the Signature Bak Chor Mee ($5), considered pretty affordable.

What sets it apart from the typical minced meat noodles is its generous serving of ingredients, including a ngoh hiang, fried house-made dumplings, fishballs, fishcake, pork slices, and braised mushrooms.

My personal favourite item was the deep-fried dumpling, packed with meat and not overly starchy.

However surprisingly, the noodles after tossed with sauce, was not as vinegary as I have expected (I ask for less noodles usually by the way.)

For those seeking a heartier option, the Mini Pot Noodle aka Xiao Wan Mian ($6) is a fulfilling choice.

It includes a bowl of dry-tossed mee kia or mee pok, and a heated mini pot filled with minced meat, fish ball, meatballs, dumplings, ngoh hiang, and an egg.

Break the egg in the soup, and find comfort and flavours for those craving a warm meal.
