For those in search of delicious dry Ban Mian, tucked away on River Valley Road is Banting Traditional Cuisine 萬津古早味.

You may remember they used to be from Dawson.

There is another outlet at 112 Bishan Street 12.

The stall is found within an eatery which may blend in with the rows of shophouses.

Walking in, you would find several other stalls, but it is found near the end.

Locating it might require a little effort, but it is along River Valley quite near Mohamed Sultan Road.

The couple from Kuala Lumpur run this establishment, with a commitment to tradition and taste that’s hard to miss.

At Banting, the variety of noodles on offer ranges from Ban Mian, U Mian to Mee Hoon Kueh, with prices starting at a wallet-friendly $4.50 a bowl.

Among the more intriguing options are the Hot & Spicy Noodles ($6), Mala Noodles ($5.50), and Tom Yum Noodles ($5) – promising bowls with heat.

Specials rotate throughout the week, adding an element of surprise to every visit.

The Dry Thai Style Noodles, Fried Fish U Mian, and Mini Yong Tau Foo each have their days, giving regulars a reason to return.

My favourite was undoubtedly their Hot & Spicy Handmade Noodles ($6).

This bowl came with a mix of textures and flavours – minced meat, pork balls, crispy anchovies, and a soft egg.

But it was the crispy fried bean curd that steals the show, adding a crunch that contrasted delightfully with the chewy, fresh noodles.

Speaking of the noodles, handmade daily, they possessed a ‘QQ’ quality – which refers to its springy texture. (I thought these noodles have an al dente bite reminiscent of soba, yet they are entirely their own.)

Their Dry Mee Hoon Kueh ($4.50) itself was a symphony of flavours, with a sauce that mixed well with the hand-torn soft pieces of dough.

Must mention the special chili sauce too — a flavour bomb that elevated the noodles to further heights. Very shiok.
