Korean restaurant Myung Ga that has garnered some popularity at its original Bukit Timah Plaza location, has recently expanded to 28 Tanjong Pagar.

This further fortifies Tanjong Pagar as the land of K-food, already filled with K-BBQ and casual eateries.

I did spot some not-too-typical dishes (in Singapore’s context) at Myung Ga though, including Donkatsu Pork Cutlet ($20).

Other best-selling dishes including the Soy Bean Paste Stew ($17), Seafood Soft Tofu Stew ($17), Spicy Fish Roe Stew ($23), Haemul Jjambbong ($19) and Bibim Naengmyeon ($17) which is minced beef spicy noodles.

I saw that the décor more or less retained the previous outfit here – which was Seoulizm which unfortunately closed despite enjoying relatively good exposure and business.

One of the highlights at Myung Ga is their Donkatsu ($20), a Korean-style deep-fried pork cutlet served with a special gravy.

What I liked was the thin batter around the pork cutlet that more or less maintained its crispiness, even under the lightly sweetened, tomato-infused sauce.

The meat was also pounded till thin and tender, also reminding me of schnitzel in that sense.

Another popular dish apparently is the Kong Jjajang ($15) – Myung Ga’s version of Jajangmyeon.

The term “Kong” in Korean cuisine often refers to beans, and “Jjajang” is a type of black bean sauce used in Korean-Chinese cuisine.

Also included with soft potatoes, the noodles were softer than the usual (I didn’t mind this as the strands were quite smooth).

Though the black soybean paste was a tad to the watery side, and I would have preferred a thicker sauce.

For those who love Korean comfort food, there’s an array of options like Spam Gimbap ($11), Spicy Stir-Fried Pork ($18), and Seafood Soft Tofu Stew ($17).

While the Sundubu was on the lighter side as well, the seafood flavour and mild-peppery take slowly grew on me.

While Myung Ga has strengths in certain areas of its menu, it should appeal to diners with its generous portion sizes and a wide variety of Korean food items.
