Another ‘hidden’ coffee place in Singapore.
Even if you are a regular to Hong Lim Food Centre, you may not notice this café found on the second floor of Hong Lim Complex.
Spring Coffee is a quaint addition to the bustling Chinatown area known for its vibrant food scene.
It is so named ‘spring’ to aim to be a haven of renewal in the midst of the city’s chaos.
Upon entering, I was greeted with a decor of minimalism with a touch of rustic charm.
Natural light filters through large windows, illuminating wooden tables and cosy corners that invite patrons to linger over their coffee.
The menu is a lean one currently though, offering Pain au Chocolat ($5), Plain Croissant ($4), Cheese & Scallion Scone ($5.50) and Banana Bread ($5).
Supplied by Yeastside, the Cheese and Scallion Scone would provide a savoury contrast with its herby notes; while the Banana Bread moist and rich, was a recommended favourite by the barista.
Speaking of coffee, Spring Coffee uses the Obelisk blend by 2 Degree North – a mix of 70% Brazil Cruzeiro and 30% El Salvador Finca San Carlos beans.
Choices include White ($4, $5), Long Black ($4.50) and Filter ($6 – $8); while a change to oat milk is at a dollar extra.
The coffee was robust, with undercurrents of sweet nuts and dark chocolate, finishing off with a syrupy feel that speaks of its medium-heavy body.
For those looking for something different, Spring Coffee also offers options like Cold Brew Tea ($5), Chocolate ($5.50), and Homemade Kombucha ($6), catering to a range of preferences.
It is easy to see how this place could become a regular haunt for those seeking a moment of solace or a casual meet-up spot with friends.
