Singaporeans who love Taiwanese food should be familiar with Eat 3 Bowls 呷三碗, one of the Taiwanese café OGs in Singapore.

Their signature Taiwanese cuisine offerings, the three celebrated bowls, give Eat 3 Bowls 呷三碗 its distinctive name.

These are the Lu Rou Fan, Chicken Rice, and Oyster Intestine Mee Sua.

Since its early days at Seah Im Food Centre, this restaurant has evolved with outlets at Pasir Panjang and Compass One.

The popular classroom themed café at Crawford Lane may have closed, but they have opened another at Bendemeer near Boon Keng.

While the Pasir Panjang outlet has a train theme, this new Bendeemer space attempts to mirror the vibrant atmosphere of a Taiwanese night market.

The interior is complete with Da Pai Dang-style mobile carts, a mock cinema entrance, and a retro-style ‘mamak shop’ at the side.

Other than many corners for photo-taking, this branch is larger and more spacious.

If this is your first time to Eat 3 Bowls, then I would recommend getting the Signature Trio Combo ($16.50) with beverage.

This combo features their signatures of Braised Pork Rice, Chicken Rice, and Oyster Intestines Mee Sua.

The Braised Pork Rice aka lu-rou-fan is particularly noteworthy.

The pork belly, simmered for hours in a blend of soy sauce and spices, achieves a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Also, I thought it was ‘saucy’ enough so that the rice was well coated without feeling too dry.

Or you can always order the Braised Pork Rice Set ($8.90) on its own with egg and braised cabbage.

The Oyster Intestines Mee Sua ($7.50) featured soft wheat vermicelli noodles in rich and gooey broth.

Loved the savoury mix of pork intestines (that was soft enough without being gamey) and plump oysters, all accentuated by fresh parsley and minced garlic. I did think the vinegar was a notch on the stronger side.

Adding to the night market experience are the fried snacks – a must-try being the Salted Crispy Fried Chicken ($8.20) and Fried Oyster Mushrooms ($7.50).

Coated in a light batter and deep-fried till golden, achieving a crisp exterior that gives way to the succulence within. The spice blend topping these snacks adds just the right amount of kick.

While its Crawford Lane outlet may be missed, the Bendemeer Road location more than makes up for it with its immersive décor and authentic-style Taiwanese dishes.
