Now, Golden Mile Food Centre is not only popular for its local hawker food.

There is this relatively new cake and tart stall that has been that has been generating quite a buzz among pastry enthusiasts.

Cat In The Hat Bakery stands out for those with a sweet tooth.

What sets this bakery stall apart is the background of the hawker.

She has previously trained and worked at prestigious five-star hotel pastry kitchens, including Mandarin Orchard Singapore and Shangri-La Singapore.

However, do note that operating hours are from 11am to 1:30pm or until the pastries are sold out, so it is advisable to arrive early if you want to purchase some of their delectable offerings.

One of the standout items at Cat In The Hat Bakery is their Mini Canelés ($8 for a set of six).

These small French pastries are flavoured with rum and vanilla, boasting a soft and tender custard center and a dark, caramelised crust.

I pop one into the mouth (because it is small enough) and just savour.

Notably, the canelés here are made with Norohy Madagascar vanilla beans, elevating their flavour profile.

When I asked the hawker if there was a full sized Canelé available, the response was a “no”.

This is because customers might find the mini ones more accessible and affordable in a hawker setting, and the smaller size offers a convenient snacking experience.

For chocolate lovers, there is also Chocolate Ganache Tart ($2.50) which features a luscious chocolate filling encased in a tender sweet crust.

The ganache is made from Callebaut 54.5% finest Belgian chocolate.

If you are looking for something unique, the Earl Grey & Strawberry Bundt Cake ($4) is made with toasted ground almonds and earl grey powder.

It also boasts a homemade strawberry compote in the center, for a more tangy finish.

What’s a pastry stall without some Scones?

Here, the Black Garlic & Mozzarella Cheese Scone ($3) offers a savoury twist.

These warm and buttery scones are bursting with flavour, thanks to the addition of black garlic.

If you are in the mood for a traditional British treat, the Cranberry Scones ($2.50) make a classic choice.

The Lavender & Peach Tart ($3) also caught my eye, which showcased almond frangipane with poached sweet peaches, all topped with a light lavender cream.

Before you head down, do note of the bakery stall’s opening days and hours, as they may occasionally be closed.

While the hawker scene is often associated with local hawker dishes, Cat In The Hat Bakery brings delectable pastries and a touch of elegance and sweetness to Golden Mile Food Centre.
