What’s really special about this new Sultan Gate café, is that it is run by two 17-year-old polytechnic students.

I find this inspiring, and represents a vibrant fusion of youthful energy and entrepreneurial spirit.

This not only offers a fresh perspective in the café scene, but also serves to remind us that age is merely a number when it comes to ambition.

Siësta is ‘hidden’ on the second floor (above Overrice), and therefore not immediately visible when you walk past it.

This feels like a home, with cosy vintage décor, complete with wooden tables and comfy sofas.

The duo’s dedication is palpable; they juggle their studies with managing the café, a testament to their commitment to this passion project.

The menu at Siësta is as vibrant as its creators.

Their quirky menu offers a selection of toasties, such as 3 Cheeeze Crisp ($14), Beefin’ It Up ($16), Oh My Life ($14) and Cinnamon Girl ($10).

The ‘Beefin’ It Up’ Toastie ($16) was the recommended crowd-pleaser, marrying the flavours of grain-fed beef with caramelised onions, pickles, fresh tomatoes, and a hint of honey mustard.

The outer layer was crisp while the fillings were hearty and substantial – a good effort considering that the makers are that young.

I also went for the cheekily-named Can (We) Be Friends ($14) – which is essentially Chilli Beef Fries.

You get crispy, golden fries with the hearty, robust flavours of chili beef. Pretty addictive too, I must say.

Between the food and drinks, the latter left me a deeper impression.

There was Shrek’s Love Potion ($8) – a dirty matcha oat milk latte with coffee and a hint of cinnamon; Goldslick ($8) which was an apple crumble latter; and Last Summer ($8) – a refreshing cup of yuzu tea.

I found the balance just right, not too sweet, and had more inventive flavours that the typical café.

Despite the challenges of balancing school and business, the young entrepreneurs are slowly finding their footing with the support of Overrice downstairs and customers.

Promising, and I hope they press on with juggling both.
