Navigating through Tanglin Mall’s basement, Market Blue is the go-to destination for Korean food lovers.

An interesting concept, as it lets one seemingly traverse through multiple Korean dining experiences without taking a step beyond its bounds.

Brands at Market Blue include GoGiPan for Korean BBQ dishes, and JuMak featuring Korean Rice Wine with Pancakes.

Amidst this varied offering, FUTORU, the latest to be inculcated into the collective stands out.

It offers a variety of Korean street food from Gimbap, Tteokbokki, Cheese Tonkatsu, Cream Pasta, to Korean Fried Chicken.

Gimbap, or as FUTORU prefers, “Gimbop”, takes the limelight here.

Originating from Korea, Gimbap is a beloved snack and meal, capturing the essence of Korea in a bite.

It is essentially seasoned rice and various fillings rolled in sheets of seaweed, often likened to sushi, yet distinctly Korean in its flavours and execution.

Each piece, neatly sliced, reveals a cross-section of colourful ingredients and a blend of tastes.

The menu at FUTORU crafts a broad spectrum, offering Rice Gimbop with diverse fillings from the rich Bulgogi to the robustly flavoured Kimchi Tuna.

The Bulgogi Rice Gimbop ($13.90 for a set of 10 pieces), was a dance between healthful and hearty.

The bulgogi – tender, mildly sweet, and savoury beef – was juxtaposed against the rice, presenting a meal that leaned towards healthy and wholesome.

Some may find it a little on the bland side. So, an accompaniment of house-made wasabi mayonnaise sauce would provide a subtle kick and creamy richness.

Navigating towards a lighter route, FUTORU has also introduced Egg Gimbop without the rice, filled with varied fillings such as Bacon Cream Cheese, Spicy Fish Cake, Shrimp, Tuna, Bulgogi, and Hotdog.

Furthermore, they haven’t forsaken those adhering to a low-carb or keto lifestyle, offering options generously filled with vibrant greens called the “Green Keto Gimbop”.
