Ought Cafe, tucked away in the Peace Centre (near Dhoby Ghaut and Rochor), presents itself as a quaint destination for coffee aficionados.
Some café lovers may find their name vaguely familiar.
Its journey began at YMCA, but now it finds its home at a more central location, albeit temporarily, as owners Jared Tan and Glen Ho scout for a more permanent space.
This duo is no stranger to the coffee scene, having been the minds behind names like Prodigal Roasters, Lowercase, and Gather the Misfits.
I remember the first time visiting Prodigal back at Ang Mo Kio (that was 2016) and they moved quite a couple of times.
The cafe exudes a minimalist charm, creating an ideal spot for those seeking a brief respite. I saw many students around taking a quick drink.
(By the way, it is near Nickel at Middle Road in case you are planning on visiting another coffee place after this.)
The team currently uses a Rwanda Gakenke F.W bean (also by Prodigal Roasters), with red apple, dried orange peel, and subtle mint notes that was balanced and light in every sip.
Beyond coffee, Ought’s menu, though modest, has some baked goods on display, such as Sourdough Fudge Brownie and Lemon Drizzle Loaf.
I had the Cranberry White Choc ($4), which had a chewy and dense texture, with a bit of tartness within the sweetness.
While the pop-up cafe operates from 9am to 5pm every day except Sunday, it is advisable to visit early as their items can sell out.
