Hamilton Road located in the vibrant Jalan Besar, has emerged as a notable café-hopping stretch.

This area stands out for its good mix of cafés, each offering unique experiences and specialties, from artisanal coffee shops like Brawn & Brains Coffee to creative bakeries like La Levain.

Taking over LUCID is The Community Coffee which shouldn’t be an unfamiliar name to coffee lovers.

With a first outlet at Far East Plaza, this is already shop Number 4.

This location retains an grey-industrial essence of its predecessor – still feels welcoming and comfortable.

The Community Coffee’s focus is clearly on their specialty coffee offerings, which includes White ($5), Strong White ($6) and Iced White ($6).

They provide a inhouse-roasted blend for their espresso-based drinks, and a selection of four different blends for those preferring Aeropress, Hand Brew, and Espresso Set items.

For the White, the cafe uses Monteblanco beans, particularly the Purple Caturra variety, celebrated for their ripe acidity and dense sweetness, contributing to a syrupy and complex flavour profile.

You get subtle floral notes with a deep, sweet scent that is almost reminiscent of dark berries or stone fruits.

I also had the Espresso Tonic ($8) made with a double shot of espresso combined with grapefruit and thyme tonic.

An invigorating drink with espresso was complemented by the citrusy zing of the grapefruit, while the thyme added a refreshing herbal note.

Additionally, there is a range of rotating cakes such as Lemon Meringue ($8) and Carrot Walnut ($7), and I had the Rose Raspberry Teacake ($7) with raspberry cream cheese frosting.

Good to go with the coffee, you get subtle, fragrant notes of rose infusing the light and airy sponge.

The Community Coffee, while not offering a wide range of food options, excels in its coffee expertise and adds more colour to the Hamilton Road café scene.
