[Malacca] It has been many years since I last stepped into Malacca, the state of Malaysia on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, known to be a popular weekend spot for many Singaporeans.
Just 4 – 5 hours ride from Singapore, this bustling city is known for their rich culture and local delights such as Chicken Rice Balls, Durian Chendol and Lok Lok, and a cafe scene that is gaining popularity lately.
After asking for recommendations for cafes in Malacca, the one cafe that is frequently suggested is The Daily Fix Cafe, for their Pandan Pancakes.
True enough, within half an hour of opening, the place was fully packed with diners and subsequent customers were directed to the second floor instead.
Situated in a double storeys high vintage shophouse with a courtyard and a balcony overlooking it, keep a lookout for this souvenir shop with a signboard “Next KK Sdn. Bhd” as the cafe is located behind it.
If you are travelling on a Grab car, there should be not be any problem as The Daily Fix Cafe is so popular that it is one of the few designated pick-up points shown on the Grab app in Malacca.
The menu includes affordable Latte/ Cappuccino/ Flat White (RM10.50, SGD$3.50), Flavoured Latte (RM11, SGD$3.70), Brunch (RM16.50 – 26.90, SGD$5.50 – 9.00), Pasta (RM 18.50 – 22.50, SGD$6.20 – 7.50) and their signature Pancakes (RM 11.90 – 17.90, SGD$4 – 6).
Known for their Pancakes that are priced between RM 11.90 and 17.90 (SGD$4-6), flavours include their bestseller Pandan (RM 13.90, SGD$4.70), Durian (RM 17.90 SGD$6), Espresso (RM 15 SGD$5) and Salted Egg Yolk (RM 17.90 SGD$6).
Toppings such as Nutella (RM 4, SGD$1.30), Vanilla Ice Cream RM 3.50, SGD$1.20) and Maple syrup (RM 2.50, SGD$0.80) are available for add-ons.
Both their Pandan Pancakes (RM 13.90, SGD$4.70) and Durian Pancakes (RM 17.90 SGD$6) were sold out within one hour of opening.
I ended up ordering the Espresso Pancakes Stacks (RM 15 SGD$5) that came in a stacked format instead of the usual flat presentation.
Approximately 20 minutes is required to make the pancakes, just ample time to explore the vintage space with old-school furnitures and retro-looking display.
The Espresso Pancakes Stacks (RM 15 SGD$5) came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, grounded walnuts and a cup of double shot of espresso by the side.
Each stack of pancake was about 7cm in length and was soft, moist and fluffy on its own.
Sedap nia.
The balance between the sweet vanilla ice cream and bitter espresso shot was just right, making the pancakes one of the bestsellers here.
For the coffee drinkers, espresso-based coffee such as Latte, Cappuccino and Flat White (RM 10.50, SGD$3.50) are available.
If you are adventurous enough, there is a Barista’s Choice (RM 12, SGD$4) and I heard that it turned out to be Gula Melaka Latte.
Sounds interesting enough.
