[KUALA LUMPUR] The perks about staying in Chinatown at Kuala Lumpur is that all the cafes and bars are of walking distance from one another.

After our visit to matcha-specialty Niko Neko Matcha 2.0, we decided to visit aKaffe 16 is the newest addition to Kuala Lumpur’s cafe scene. With a stunning courtyard and delicious treats from Malaysia Beryl’s Chocolate, it’s a must-visit for any coffee lover.nother cafe that specialised in chocolates.

Opened by Malaysian brand Beryl’s Chocolate, Kaffe 16 is their F&B wing right next to their retail outlet, at unit 16 and thus their name.

I must say that Kaffe 16 is very spacious, with seating areas occupying 2 shophouse units and a mini courtyard within the compound.

Their spiral staircase and a mini courtyard are one of the highlights, perfect for taking an #OOTD shot.

Their menu is pretty extensive, with All-Day brunch (RM 20 – 34, SGD 6.50 – 11), Rice (RM 28 – 38, SGD 9 – 12.50), Burger (RM 29 – 38, SGD 9.50 – 12.50) and Pasta (RM 29 – 36, SGD 9.50 – 12).

Coffee starts from RM 12 (SGD 4) for a cup of Espresso, with the usual options such as Latte (RM 13, SGD 4.20) and Mocha (RM 16, SGD 5.20) and more interesting ones such as Rose Latte (RM 15, SGD 5) and Caramel Latte (RM 15, SGD 5).

Diners can also opt for their signature Beryl’s Chocolate (RM 17, SGD 5.50), Elderflower Tonic (RM 17, SGD 5.50) or Orange Juice (RM 20, SGD 6.50) for non- coffee options.

Using a single origin from Mexico, roasted by Toothless Coffee for the Espresso Elderflower Tonic (RM 23, SGD 7.50), the drink was refreshing and citrusy with distinctive notes of rum and orange.

Single origin Honduras, roasted by The Roast Things Coffee Roaster, is used for their Rose Latte (RM 15, SGD 5), with distinctive floral hints that is sweet, balanced by the earthy notes of almond and roasted oolong.

A selection of pastries are on display, such as Strawberry Cheese Tart (RM 21, SGD 7), Lemon Tart (RM 17, SGD 5.50), Burnt Cheesecake (RM 20, SGD 6.50), Chocolate Truffle RM 17, SGD 5.50), Honey Almond Cake (RM 20, SGD 6.50) and Macaron (RM 4, SGD 1.20).

Prices are comparable to Singapore though with decent quality.

The Honey Almond Cake (RM 20, SGD 6.50) comes with alternating layer of honey sponge and almond cream, topped with dried fruits and flower petals for the extra aroma.

Slightly on the sweet side, the cake was moist and would go well with their cup of coffee.

The Strawberry Cheese Tart (RM 21, SGD 7) was pretty dense on its own, piped with dollops of fresh whipping cream on the sides with strawberry cream cheese piped in the middle of the tart.

The strawberry cream cheese is citrus on its own, with a sweet tart crust that cuts through the tartness.

Overall, I would expect more chocolate items on their menu as their sister concept: Beryl’s Chocolate focuses on their artisanal chocolates.
