[JOHOR BAHRU] Opened right in between the 2 areas that Singaporeans frequent: KSL Mall and Taman Sentosa, Nimmies Pastry Cafe will probably be the next hot spot to check out in Johor Bahru.

KSL Mall in Johor Bahru is known to be a popular shopping mall for Singaporeans, especially for massages, haircuts and hair treatments.

And nearby at Taman Sentosa, this area is well-known hangout place for their local delights and selection of seafood.

Nimmies Pastry Cafe is located within a standalone mansion, with both alfresco and indoor dining area.

Inside, the space has tall ceilings, industrial grey walls and floorings complemented with vintage tiles and art pieces like a mini museum.

Their menu is very comprehensive, without pork and lard used, and I must say that prices are on the steeper side in ringgit context.

From Breakfast (RM 25 – 39, SGD 8 – 13) to Mains (RM 25 – 49, SGD 8 – 16), Salad (RM 22 – 28, SGD 7 – 9), Pastries (RM 9 – 32, SGD 3 – 10.50) and Beverages (RM 8 – 18, SGD 2.50 – 6).

Their main specialty are their selection of pastries, with about 30 different ones on their menu, some displayed at their glass counters.

Each of them look enticing and beautifully crafted such as Salted Egg Curry Chicken Parmesan (RM 16, SGD 5), Chilli Salted Egg Crab Croissant (RM 18, SGD 6), Green Grapes Tart (RM 18, SGD 6), Snow Strawberry Fruit Tart (RM 25, SGD 8), Hoe Lemak Croissant (RM 16, SGD 5) and Earl Grey Croissant (RM 18, SGD 6).

I decided to they out their Hoe Lemak Croissant (RM 16, SGD 5), a croissant used as the base, topped with Nasi Lemak toppings such as sunny side up, cucumber, ikan bilis, peanuts and a dollop of sambal chilli.

The taste is very legit, just like what a local Nasi lemak will taste like with a strong spicy kick from the sambal sauce.

The nice, crispy, flaky croissant complements the sambal chilli well, balancing the overall taste with a buttery sweetness.

There are also a nice combination of textures in play, from the crunchy peanuts to the crispy ikan bilis and flaky laminated croissant layers.

After having their Hoe Lemak Croissant, I do have some expectations of their other selections.

Decided on the Matcha Red Bean Croissant which comes with matcha cream and red bean paste piped on top of the croissant, with matcha powder sprinkled on it to enhance the flavour.

The croissant is still as buttery and flaky but unfortunately the matcha taste is too muted and with a sweetened taste.

Their drinks are beautifully crafted with layers and presented in glasswares of various shapes and sizes.

My Rose Latte (RM 17, SGD 5.50) comes with a layer of espresso shot at the bottom, topped with fresh milk and rose petals for the aroma.

Lightly sweetened with rose syrup, the rose latte is aromatic yet balances well with the acidic espresso shot.

The Orange Americano (RM 18, SGD 6) comes in a tall and heavy glassware, with orange juice at the bottom and espresso shot on top, packed with acidic notes.

Opened from 8am daily, Nimmies Pastry Cafe will be an ideal stop to drop by if you plan to start tour food journey in Johor Bahru early.
