[London] Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is opened as a result of the insatiably curious and self-taught chef’s fascination with historic gastronomy.

It was the fruit of his research of 14th century cookbooks, such as those by royal chefs of King Richard II, and Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and inspiration from the savoury ice creams of 1880s and Tudor architecture.

Together with Ashley Palmer-Watts, Dinner’s Chef Director and Restaurant Magazine’s Chef’s Chef of the Year for 2014, Heston Blumenthal has transformed his fascination into a modern menu of dishes and a new, evolving dining experience.

The restaurant’s simple, easy-to-remember name “Dinner” came out of historic and linguistic playfulness.

The term dinner refers to the main meal of the day. In the past, it was eaten at midday before it got too dark. Later on, thanks to candles and electricity, some people could their main meal regardless of sundown time. Today, depending on where you are, dinner might be served at midday or in the evening.

Located in the posher side of west London at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has a branch in Melbourne.

Between its two restaurants in London and Melbourne, Dinner has received numerous awards and accolades including two Michelin stars in London, and two hats in The Age, Good Food Guide, Melbourne.

A consistent awardee in the S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards, AA Restaurant Awards, and National Restaurant Awards since 2012.

It ranks No. 65 in World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2021.

The interior is contemporary and innovative yet mindful of tradition.

Its main dining room is surrounded by ivory-painted walls decorated with custom-made porcelain wall scones shaped like antique jelly moulds.

It also has floor-to-ceiling glass walls, allowing you to view Hyde Park, the kitchen and a pulley system rotating a pineapple on an elevated spit, slowly roasting over an open-fire.

This roasted fruit is the key ingredient in the famed Tipsy Cake dessert.

The dishes that captured people’s attention when it opened are Tipsy Cake (£22.00), a roasted pineapple-based dessert, and Meat Fruit (£25.50), a chicken liver parfait shaped like a mandarin. Time Out London included the Meat Fruit in the Top 100 dishes in London in 2012.

Today, this signature dish remains in the menu and continues to be just as popular.

The menus at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal are inspired by recipes of the past, with each dish indicating the year around which it was created.

The A La Carte Menu is available throughout lunch and dinner with an additional Set Lunch Menu offered Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.

From a window you can see the main dining room and Hyde Park, or draw the blind for utmost privacy. A chandelier, made of Britain’s largest hand-blown glass piece, serves as a central decorative piece in the room
