[Tokyo] Luxury brand Louis Vuitton has opened their first flagship Le Café V in Tokyo in March 2022, second in the world after its debut in Osaka.

The seven-storey high building is hard to miss from far, a total new outlook after a 3 years renovation at this oldest Louis Vuitton outlet in Japan.

The glass monolith, designed by Peter Marino and Japanese architect Jun Aoki, is a continuous flow of reflective curves and mirrored glasses that becomes pastel-like under the sunlight.

The retail section of Louis Vuitton occupies the first to forth storey, whereas an elevator will send diners of Le Café V right to the seventh floor.

Greeted by a chair in the space of a flower with red petals and white origami hanging from the ceiling, the display shelves on the right showcases Le Chocolat V – the world’s first Louis Vuitton chocolates, with the iconic LV trunks as the backdrop.

Definitely not the cheapest chocolates you can find at Le Chocolat V, Louis Vuitton chocolates are offered in squares and other shapes incorporating the iconic LV monogram.

For reference, a box of 10 square chocolate with the LV trunk design is priced at JPY 12000 (SGD120); Box of 9 LV monogram square chocolates at JPY 18000 (SGD180), Box of 16 iconic LV monogram shapes at JPY 24000 (SGD240).

The space beautifully created with a combination of traditional and contemporary design elements.

The floating white paper leaves on the ceiling creates a cosy ambience, equipped with plush turquoise sofa seats that are shaped like ladyfingers in a Tiramisu dessert.

Partnering with Chef Yosuke Suga of SugaLabo (One of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants) for their menu, Japanese ingredients are incorporated in the dishes.

A comprehensive food menu includes Salad (JPY 2400 – 3600, SGD24 – 36), Starter (JPY 2100 – 4800, SGD21 – 48), Sandwich (JPY 2500 – 3900, SGD25 – 39) and Mains (JPY 2800 – 4500, SGD28 – 45).

Their dessert menu is pretty comprehensive, with a total of 8 items in the SGD20+ range.

Think Macaron (JPY 2400, SGD24), Opera Cake (JPY 2300, SGD23), Mille-Feuille (JPY 2500, SGD25), Mont Blanc (JPY 3000, SGD30), Chocolate Parfait (JPY 2700, SGD27), Candied Fig with Red Wine (JPY 2900, SGD29), Dark Chocolate Mousses Ganache (JPY 2400, SGD24) and Shortcake (JPY 2800, SGD28).

I went for the Chocolate Parfait (JPY 2700, SGD27) made up of Peruvian chocolate mousse, fresh cream, chocolate bits, topped with espresso granita and gold flakes.

The acidic notes of the espresso cuts through the richness of the chocolate, giving it a more refreshing taste, whereas the textures of the granita add more complexity to the combination.

The Mille-Feuille (JPY 2500, SGD25) comes in 3 separate layers, divided by thin, flaky and crispy puff pastry.

Dollops of Madagascar vanilla and fresh whipped cream is used for different layers, giving it a light and airy touch.

While the whole combination is flavours and textures is overall light, it’s not mind-blowing.

The iconic beverages caught my attention, with both LV Monogram imprinted on the foam, indicated by V on the menu.

Think Hot and Iced V Cafe Latte JPY 1800 (SGD18) and V Royal Milk JPY 1800 (SGD18), with various LV Monogram designs on the surface.

The price of beverages starts from JPY 1800 (SGD18) and definitely not cheap to begin with, so do take lots of photos to make your money worth.

Taste-wise, I will say there are better coffee and milk teas elsewhere at a fraction of the price.

Louis Vuitton is not the only luxury brand that opens a cafe in Japan.

In fact there are many luxury brands F&Bs such as Tiffany Cafe, Bulgari restaurant, Ralph’s Coffee by Ralph Lauren, Café Dior by Ladurée and TWO MICHELIN Stars Beige Alain Ducasse Tokyo by CHANEL and DUCASSE PARIS.
