[Tokyo] More developments can be seen in the recent years in Shimokitazawa, which is known for second-hand vintage clothing stores, bookstores, music shops, indie cafés and bars.

Apart from the new additions such as reload, Mikan Shimokitazawa and Bonus Track, another new complex known as Nansei Plus opened in front of the southwest ticket gate of Shimokitazawa Station on the Odakyu Line.

It is located along the Shimokita Route Street, a 1.7km urban development project that stretches from Shimokitazawa Station on the Odakyu Line to Setagaya Daita Station.

Nansei Plus is divided into two main buildings.

One is a five-story building that houses the (tefu) lounge, a combination of cafe – Kitasando Coffee, cinema, studio, co-working lounge and offices.

The other is a two-story building that houses four other restaurants – Bona Bona Petit, a Western-style restaurant run by the folks behind Shimokitazawa’s renowned soba shop Dashin Soan, Kitade Tacos and coffee-beans roastery Belleville Brulerie.

Kitasando Coffee has two outlets, one in Shibuya and another on the 2nd floor of (tefu) lounge in Shimokitazawa.

Here at (tefu) lounge, patrons can choose to enjoy lounge access at an hourly rate of JPY 900 (SGD9) which includes a selection of artisanal coffee from Kitasando Coffee.

Either that, they can order ala carte items from the menu which includes Sandwiches (JPY 432 – 756, SGD 4.30 – 7.50), Pastries (JPY 270 – 648, SGD 2.70 – 6.40) and Beverages (JPY 486 – 756, SGD 4.80 – 7.50).

Their selection of Sandwiches include Ham (JPY 756, SGD7.50), Tuna Melt (JPY 756, SGD7.50), Sweet Potato Butter (JPY 432, SGD4.30) and Black Soybean Paste (JPY 432, SGD4.30).

The Black Soybean Paste Sandwich (JPY 432, SGD4.30) was not overly sweet, yet the bread was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

For the pastries, expect Mont Blanc (JPY 648, SGD 640), New York Cheesecake (JPY 572, SGD5.70), Chocolate Chip Cookie and White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie (JPY 270, SGD2.70) and Scone (JPY 378, SGD3.70).

The Mont Blanc (JPY 648, SGD6.40) comes with smooth, creamy chestnut cream infused with rum for a refreshing taste.

With a flaky puff pastry beneath, it forms a nice contrast in textures that is well-balanced.

Their drinks selection are pretty interesting, ranges from the usual espresso-based drinks (JPY 486 – 648, SGD4.80 – 6.40) to Apple Tea Latte (JPY 702, SGD7) and Caramel Chestnut Latte (JPY 756, SGD7.50).

The Apple Tea Latte (JPY 702, SGD7) comes with slices of apple on top of hot tea and milk foam, dusted with cinnamon powder.

Taste-wise, it is similar to having an apple pie in the liquid form.

If you find yourself tired from all the walking at Shimokitazawa, Kitasando Coffee at (tefu) lounge will be a good pit stop for a short break.
