[Jakarta, Indonesia] Strategically located in the prestigious area of Menteng Central Jakarta, Maple & Oak is a modern all-day brunch place inspired by the beautiful dishes in Melbourne.

It is considered one of Jakarta’s most beloved places for brunch, desserts and coffee, and generally enjoys good reviews.

Although tons of brunch places have been established around the city, there are still only a handful of them that offers a ‘legit’ all day brunch menu.

This makes such a perfect basecamp for the ‘brunchers’.

Taking up a small corner of De Ritz Building, Maple and Oak is easily visible from the street.

Although it isn’t as spacious and airy as other brunch places, the space is cleverly designed to makes you feel at home with its simple, clean interior.

The patio outside also acts as a scenic photo spot.

Though I visited Maple & Oak last year and experience friendly service and OKAY food, I did not quite understand what the whole rave was about.

I decided to give it another try (as am running out of places to go to).

Initially, I wanted to try their Instagram worthy dish, Coffee Butter Steak & Egg (IDR 138k, SGD$13.90) and Cold Press Juice, but turned out both of them were sold out for that day.

So I ordered the dishes that impressed me the last time, the Big Breakfast (IDR 98k, SGD$9.90) and Maple Butter Brioche (IDR 78k, SGD$7.85).

The Maple Butter Brioche (IDR 78k, SGD$7.85) turned out to be one of the best ones offered in town.

The aroma of the truffle butter worked well with the unique sweetness of the maple syrup, and the soft and fluffy brioche texture was also a winner.

A little suggestion: The side dishes could definitely do with some seasoning though.

The Big Breakfast (IDR 98k, SGD$9.90) was typical café food fare, though I would say the way the scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages were prepared and presented were better than the average.

However, the sautéed mushroom were too thinly cut and resulted in a mushy mix, and cherries tomatoes could have been fresher and sweeter.

The Honeycomb Ice Cream dessert (43k, SGD$4.30) was an all-time favorite vanilla soft serve, served with a generous slice of honeycomb, berries and homemade granola.

Overall, the Maple Butter Brioche pretty much saved the day, while some of the accompany sides could have been improved.

With that said, Maple & Oak still remains as one of the favourite places in Jakarta to get a brunch fix.
