[New Delhi] A relaxed atmosphere that instantly brightens up the day, Diggin has a positive effect on its customers the moment they walk in.

Serving food that is guaranteed to satisfy the soul, the restaurant has become the go-to place when wanting a healthy breakfast to start the day with or indulge in some comfort foods like pizza, sandwiches, shakes and sweet delicacies.

Diggin is situated in the small Anand Lok Shopping Centre and has the advantage of being right opposite Gargi College, one of South Delhi’s leading institutions.

This automatically makes it popular with the younger crowd, and by keeping their menu mostly confined to college pleasers such as burgers and pasta they have managed to achieve an almost iconic status in the region.

The speciality of the restaurant is that while it might appeal more to the millennial generation it is relaxed enough that anyone, irrespective of the age, would feel at ease here.

The cafe is economical and keeps in mind the budget constraints of its primary customers, without letting down on the quality or quantity, making eating here a real bargain.

Colourful and alive, the interiors of Diggin are the most charming aspect of the restaurant.

While the little patio outside, full of plants, is perfect for cool morning or winter evenings, the inside is very hipster like.

Buntings hang from the ceiling on one side, posters with quotes hang on the walls, and curious get space on a huge shelf that acts as a centrepiece.

They have seating on the first floor which is equally cheerful and creates an enjoyable and happy atmosphere, but I would recommend sitting on the ground floor if you can find space.

The heart of Diggin’s décor for me is the two gigantic French windows that not only let in light during the day but gives the interiors a gloriously dramatic feel.

Focusing primarily on their breakfast menu, I was extremely pleased with the food at the café.

The Fluffy Ham and Bacon Omelette (Rs 255, SGD5.00) was exactly that; fluffy, warm, and loaded with bits of ham and bacon.

The hash was crisp and the greens on the side added both colour and freshness.

Now, it would be unfair to compare the crepes served here with what you get in France, but they were nevertheless well made, thin, and had good structure.

The Nutella Crepe (Rs 255, SGD5.00) was basic but delicious as was the Spinach, Mushroom, and Cheese Crepe (Rs 255, SGD5.00) which came with a little salsa on the side that added a real punch to every bite.

I must also recommend the Chicken and Cheese Quiche (Rs 255, SGD5.00) which was deliciously creamy, oozing out of a perfectly cooked tart that was crumbling with each bite.

The service was friendly and service staff was happy to cater to specific dietary needs of others on my table and even whipped up a dish that was off-the-menu, for them.

Diggin has a small bakery section where they sell various types of bread and cookies throughout the day.

It is important to note that because of the location next to the college, the cafe is almost always busy.

Even on a Sunday morning when I visited, there was a good movement of people coming and going.

Diggin was love at first sight.

The foliage outside is the perfect first impression which gets amplified by the amusing interiors and those majestic windows.

The food, on top of it all, shines brightly. It is good food that is done right, with love, and importance is given to flavours and preparations.

A place that instantly calls for a re-visit. It left me wanting more and I cannot wait to go back at a different time and experiment further with their menu.
