[Penang] China House in Penang is considered a must-visit spot for café goers and culture seekers.

Even though it has been around for quite many years (back in 2011?), it is still popular and was packed when I visited the various times.

It is a popular locale amongst locals and tourists to hang out throughout the day and late at night.

China House epitomises old-world charm with its compound consisting of three heritage buildings connected via an open-air courtyard.

From the moment you step inside, the eclectic charm of this establishment makes an impression.

When I visited this again, many sections still remain familiar and retained its look.

As part of this mini-marketplace are 14 establishments that cover every commercial aspect: retail shops, galleries, live music venues, cafés and bakeries, and restaurants.

The area takes on a classic lane concept, with all the places alongside the path leading from Beach Street to Victoria Street.

Here, you’ll find over 20 different options to take memorable photos, like wall art, quaint nooks, and vintage windows.

That is probably why China House is a famous backdrop for many photo shoots and Instagram.

One of the most striking aspects of China House is its extensive and diverse menu.

It offers a wide array of dishes ranging from traditional Malaysian cuisine to contemporary Western fare.

For breakfast, the choices include the Breakfast Wrap, Mushroom Bruschetta, Scrambled Eggs, Mexican Breakfast (Nachos Style) to Laos Minced Chicken Omelette with corn salsa, watercress lemon salad, and toast.

As for lunch, you get anything from Chicken Schnitzel Wholegrain Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Breast in Laksa Soup, Hokkien Spaghetti Bolognese, to Beef Rendang Fried Rice.

The desserts at China House definitely deserve a special mention.

When you talk in, you see a section of cakes with an ever-changing selection that can easily overwhelm the indecisive.

China House boasts of having the “longest café in Penang”.

Between them, you can expect 50 different cakes and desserts every day, prepared by ten bakers eager to showcase new recipes.

The menu changes every few months, but they continue serving some hot sellers throughout the year.

Savoury and sweet baked goods include Chicken and 3 Mushroom Pie, Coconut Cake with Lime Curd, Pear and Ginger Upside Down Cake, Chocolate and Vietnamese Coffee Tart, and more.

China House is not just about food; it is a cultural hub.

The ambiance is relaxed and bohemian, good for leisurely afternoons spent sipping coffee and soaking in the creative vibes.
