[Bangkok] Nusara นุสรา is a private Thai fine dining venue located just off Maharat Road near Wat Pho.

Though operating for only over a year, it has become one of Bangkok’s most celebrated private fine dining experiences. It landed the No. 10 spot on this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

The intimate 10-capacity dining room is set above Mayrai Pad Thai and Wine Bar and overlooks the Wat Pho temple complex.

The compact space is decorated with a blend of modern and the glamour of a bygone Old Town era.

Nusara

An elegant, exclusive hideaway like no other.

Behind Nusara is culinary mastermind Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn, known for his ultra-modern one-Michelin-starred Le Du in Bangkok. (Pictured beside him is his brother.)

Chef Ton trained at New York’s Culinary Institute of America, and worked for highly esteemed restaurants The Modern, Jean-Georges, and former World’s 50 Best champion Eleven Madison Park. He is even conferred as a certified sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers.

The concept of Nusara is authentic traditional family recipes using modern techniques and presentation.

It was named after Chef Ton’s grandmother who passed away in 2019 as a tribute to her, being his culinary inspiration.

The Crab Curry is served on a wide, crispy betel leaf and topped with charcoal-grilled horseshoe crab eggs and cilantro.

Its fiery flavours and varied textures make this a signature dish not to be missed. Savour the slightly chewy caviar, the divinely tender crab meat, and crunch of the betel leaf.

Price per person is 3,590 THB (SGD140, USD101).

A 12-course dinner set menu is also available, featuring predominantly Thai cuisine with occasional unique ingredients and cooking techniques.

Round out your meal with classic Thai desserts like fresh sago with coconut and fresh grated chestnut, seasonal fruits with from sweet fish sauce, chilli, and dry Chinese plum powder dip; and Chef Ton’s take on pla heang taeng mo – watermelon with dried fish flakes – paired with sticky rice.

A brilliant meal you should not miss. Booking is quite hard though, as spaces are limited.
