[Bangkok] Husband and wife Prin Polsuk and Thanyaporn “Mint” Jarukittikun own and operate Samrub Samrub Thai or Samrub for Thai (สำรับสำหรับไทย), a small private kitchen restaurant concept in Bangkok.

For a small private dining restaurant to reach No 31 of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is quite a feat.

Chef Prin heads the kitchen while Mint takes care of front of house and sourcing ingredients and supplies.

Together they work with Pastry Chef Nuttawat Chotikasupa who’s in charge of pastries and dessert specials.

Note that this review was written after a meal at the hip Charoen Krung area at Bang Rak; but they have recently moved to 39/11 Yommarat Alley which is walking distance from Sala Daeng BTS station.

There are 10 seats at the counter where you can watch and interact with his team; while there are another 6 seats at another side of the restaurant.

Reservations can be made via Chop or DM on their Instagram page, but keep your fingers crossed as they are always fully booked and may not respond immediately.

Therefore, you can imagine that getting a reservation is quite hard.

I paid 3,932.25 THB per pax (which works out to be about SGD152.40, USD111).

Their open-air kitchen allows you to see all the cooking action and even interact with Chef Prin and his culinary team.

As former head chef of Nahm restaurant, Chef Prin specialises in ancient family Thai recipes. Here you can expect progressive Thai food with new perspectives on national cooking traditions.

Tasting menu changes monthly, and often features what’s in season. As such a small private kitchen, it can afford to serve even hyper-seasonal and hyper-local ingredients.

But even if menu changes and rarely ever repeat, returning diners have notable faves. The Regency Kapow is a quintessential Thai stir-fry dish made from a famous recipe of home economist Mae Porn circa 1972.

Its explosive flavour is a blend of aromatic sweet basil, garlic, and chili.

Chef Prin’s rendition adds a liberal amount of Regency pineapple brandy for sweet and smoky notes.

Recommended specials include Grilled chicken, Dry fish innards curry, Grilled omelette, Grilled tomato salad and grilled oyster, and Longan Ice cream.
