For fans of Luke’s Lobster from New York City, yes… The famous Lobster Roll shop has arrived in Singapore.

The location is at the ground floor of Shaw House Isetan Scotts, next to another new-to-Singapore brand Danish pastry shop Leckerbaer.

Coincidentally, another popular-from-NYC brand Shake Shack has opened opposite across the road at Orchard Road‘s Liat Towers.

This is a 23-seater open-concept restaurant, whittled down to 17 after safe distancing measures.

If you want to beat the queue, pre-orders for takeaways can be made via www.lukeslobster.sg.

Luke’s Lobster which also has an outlet in Tokyo, Japan, is popular with tourists and enjoys snaking queues at that Omotesando outlet.

Founder Luke Holden left his investment banking job, turned to seafaring roots to work with his dad, negotiated with lobster suppliers directly (to cut out the middle man), for traceable, sustainable seafood to those fresh lobster rolls.

Luke’s Maine-style lobster rolls are just ‘simple’ stuff – toasted buttered split top bun, with some mayo, lemon butter, secret spices and PURE LOBSTER.

Accordingly, each lobster roll requires 5 or 6 claws to make.

That does the trick – not diluted salad, not drowning in mayo, just pure good 4 ounces of fresh, sweet lobster.

For price reference, a regular Lobster Roll is priced at $25.50 in Singapore. Contrast this with USD17 (SGD23.70) in New York, and 1580 Yen (SGD20.50) in Tokyo.

If you ask me what I really think about Luke’s Lobster, since I tried both the New York City and Omotesando, Tokyo outlets a couple of times.

I liked the freshness and sweetness of the lobster chunks, though I wished the buns were warmer and overall more buttery. Over in Singapore’s case, the buns could have been less dry and more fluffy, for a better overall eating experience.

Also on the menu are Crab Roll ($23.50), Shrimp Roll ($21.50), Lobster Bisque ($12.90) and Clam Chowder ($11.50), though fans of Luke’s Lobster would just advice you to stick to the lobster ones.

There is also a sampler set of Luke’s Trio ($33.50) included with half lobster, half crab and half shrimp portions.

The Shrimp Roll which is quite ordinary can be skipped, especially if you have no stomach space and have to make only one choice.

I came with a certain expectation in mind for “Lobster Bisque”. This came in a small portion for its price of $12.90, with texture thick like Potato Potage.

The Singapore outpost is brought in by Caerus Holding, which is also behind New York’s famous cake boutique Lady M (and previously Pablo Cheese Tarts) in Singapore.
