Arc-en-ciel (pronounced as “ar-kon-see-ell”) Pâtisserie which means “rainbow” in French, has opened at Neil Road.

Specialising in French and Japanese-inspired mousse cakes, a total of 7 cakes are on display on the shelf when I visited, in different shapes, colours and flavours.

The Lola, a guava pineapple mousse cake, is an entire new creation made for the opening of the cafe.

This had pink guava mousse on the outside, pistachio mousse on the inside, topped with pineapple confit and set on top of a piece of pistachio feuilletine crunch.

Dome Bakery
227 South Bridge Road, #01-01, Singapore 058776 (Chinatown MRT)
Opening Hours: 10am – 6pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Chinatown Cafe Has Fudging Good Molten Brownies And Lava Muffins
Dome Bakery serves up ‘Fudging Good Brownie’ with the lava fillings and other baked goods such as lava muffins, pound cakes, and cookies.

Patrons may take away their sweet treats of choice, or choose to sit at the small dine-in area of tall chairs and counters which can fit four people.

Their ‘Fudging Good Brownie’ menu features a good mix of molten goods.

This includes the Smoked Sea Salt Brownie ($6), Cookies & Cream Brownie ($6), Peanut Butter Pecan Brownie ($6), Dark Chocolate Brownie ($6), Raspberry Chocolate Brownie ($6.50), Biscoff Cookie Brownie ($6.50), and Matcha Macadamia Brownie ($6.50).

The brownie parts were dense, gooey and moist, what I would dream of a brownie to be, while the sauce it contained was a chocolate sauce which was not too sweet.

Cafe Limonci
Oxley BizHub, 61 Ubi Rd 1, #03-17, Singapore 408727 (Beside FoodHub)
Opening Hours: 9am – 5pm (Mon – Sun)

Hidden Gelato Cafe Like A Furniture Showroom Opens At Oxley BizHub
One would easily mistake Cafe Lemonci as a furniture shop, a spacious compound with lots of different sofa pieces, carpets and tables.

Each “room” is slightly different from the rest, a communal table and leather couches in one and even more sofa seats in the next space.

Cafe Limonci only serves Waffles ($6), Gelato (Single $4, Double $7.50) and drinks on their menu.

Their selection of gelato leaned towards botanical flavours, with options such as Earl Grey Lavender, Yuzu Hojicha Lavender, Lemon Curd Thyme, Oolong Osmanthus, Sencha Yuzu and Tahitian Vanilla Bean.

The Backyard Bakers – Jewel Singapore
Jewel Changi Airport #01-234, 78 Airport Blvd, Singapore 819666
Opening Hours: 10am – 9:30pm (Mon – Sun)

Popular Brownie-Specialty Cafe Opens At Jewel Changi Airport
Fans of the Backyard Bakers will be thrilled to know that they have open their latest flagship store at Jewel Changi Airport.

The Backyard Bakers first started at Havelock 2, and has drawn long queues right outside their shop, braving the hot, humid and occasional wet weather just to get a piece of their signature brownies.

The Brownies come in either toppings on top or in the centre, the former is available in flavours such as Sticky Chewy Fudge ($7.50), Molten Lava Dark Chocolate, Walnut & Sea Salt ($8.10) and Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Caramel ($7.30).

I ordered one of their best-sellers Molten Lava Dark Chocolate, Walnut & Sea Salt ($8.10), with combination of textures from the crunchy walnut to the crumbly brownie and molten dark chocolate filling.

While I expected it to be rich and “jelak”, the sea salt adds a nice refreshing taste that cuts through the sweetness.

Beastly Girls Sandwich Bar
Odeon Katong #01-18, 11 East Coast Road, Singapore 428722
Opening Hours: 8am – 3pm (Wed – Fri), 8am – 4pm (Sat – Sun), Closed Mon, Tues

Hidden Katong Sandwich Cafe With Hearty “Breakfast Beast” Sandwich
Beastly Girls Sandwich Bar is quite a fuss-free 10-seater space entirely outdoors, located 2 doors away from dessert shop Wan Mei 碗美.

The menu is pretty straight-forward, categorised into Breakfast (10am – 11.30am) and Lunch (from 11.30am onwards).

There are only 3 items on their breakfast menu, think The Breakfast Beast ($16), Kayalicious ($9) and Avo & Eggs ($14.50).

Their signature The Breakfast Beast ($16) came with nitrite-free pork sausages, scrambled cage-free eggs, melted cheddar and drizzled with Ketchup in a toasted Cubano bun, served with hash brown by the side.

The Cubano bun was crispy after toasting, yet it gave a nice chewy bite – soft and lent a sweet finish to the overall sandwich which was hearty. I found the sausages to be cooked just nicely.

Cafes

afterwords
Pagoda St, #24, Singapore 059186
Opening Hours: 11am – 8pm (Mon, Wed – Sun), Closed Tues

Homely Cafe Opens At Chinatown
Located along the main shopping street in Chinatown at MRT station Exit A, afterwords cafe at Pagoda Street is a new 50-seater space serving brunch, coffee and desserts.

A small section of brunch items is available, some coming with quirky, ‘punny’ names.

They include as Mini Blues Surprise ($11) consisting of mini blueberries pancakes and a sunny side-up, Breakfast of Champions ($22), The Land Before Avocado ($20), Everything on a Waffle ($17) and a Moveable Feast ($16) made of Smoked Salmon or Teriyaki Chicken Toastie.

The Everything on a Waffle ($17) included pandan waffles, choice of eggs, chicken sausage, and maple syrup which you could add to taste.

The pandan waffles was different from the usual and interestingly gave a sense of nostalgia, I wondered about the chicken sausages. Perhaps some customers would prefer a more premium sausage (at this price point) rather than the usual chicken franks you could get more easily.
