Singapore’s vibrant cafe scene is constantly evolving, with new cafes popping up across the city on a regular basis.

These include Luckin’ Coffee (Takashimaya, Marina Square), La Savoir (Scotts Square), Cafe Liliac (466 Crawford Lane), Alchemist (Robinson Road), and Ten+ (65 Sungei Tengah Road).

From artisanal coffee shops to modern bistros, these new cafes offer a diverse range of dining experiences that cater to all tastes and preferences.

Whether you are a gelato fanatic, a coffee connoisseur, or just looking for a great place to relax and enjoy good food, here are 10 new cafes in Singapore out there that can be perfect for you:

Cafe Brera Reunion
National Museum of Singapore #01-06, 93 Stamford Road, Singapore 178897
Opening Hours: 9am – 5pm (Mon – Sun)

Bakery Cafe With Croissant Sandwiches And Brunch At National Museum of Singapore
The French-style bakery cafe is housed in Reunion, the Museum’s new dedicated social space for seniors.

Bread offerings include soft buns such as Red Bean Bun ($3), Coconut Bun ($3), and Raisin Cinnamon Sticky Buns ($4.50) have a clear local origin.

They pull apart easy with my hands for a delightful mouthful.

Also look out for more ‘traditional’ offerings like Pain Au Chocolat, Blueberry Danish, and Almond Croissant.

Away from the bakes, a bestseller is actually the Café Brera Chicken Curry ($10.80). It arrived served in a little bowl.

The gravy was on the thicker side, which helped to generously coat the chicken and potatoes. What I got was a soft drumstick in rich and aromatic curry gravy; best when the bread could be used to soak up the wonderful flavours.

Kreams Lounge
The URA Centre Singapore City Gallery, 45 Maxwell Road #01-01, Singapore 069118

Korean Café At Maxwell With Garden-In-Bookstore Theme
After 3 years, the Café Kreams team has opened a new concept at URA Centre (Singapore City Gallery) while keeping the essence of what worked at the other outlets.

The menu is kept simple with coffee drinks, and refreshments such as Green Grape Tea ($6.50), Honey Fruit Tea ($6.50), Choco Latte ($6), and Matcha Latte ($6.50).

There will be food offerings such as Ham and Cheese Croffle ($6), Bacon and Avocado Croffle ($9.90), Chicken Salad ($9.50), Kimchi Alio e Olio ($9.50) and Kimchi Fried Rice ($9.90) in time to come.

Kreams Lounge should become popular with professionals and students looking for a quiet place to study or work, as well as groups of friends looking to catch up over a cup of coffee.

Ceres Haus
18A Circular Road, Singapore 049374
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 5pm (Mon, Wed), 8:30am – 3pm (Thurs – Sun), Closed Tues

Hidden Aesthetic Café With Poignant Charm At Circular Road
Walk up a non-descript staircase marked outside by a ‘Ceres’ cup and bottle hanging from a string. Peep into the first door on the left, and a round window will have you looking into the dimly-lit cafe.

The day time menu at Ceres Haus is simple, with breakfast and brunch plates like the Sweet ($14), Savoury ($18), Avo ($12), bakes like the Madeleine ($6) and Marble Cake ($5).

Their evening menu consists of small bites being the Sourdough ($8), Madeleine ($6) and Tempeh Chips ($5).

I tried the Sweet ($14), which was whipped butter, sliced cheese, plum jam, marmalade and four slices of sourdough.

The sourdough was artisanally made by a friend baker of the owners, was not too overly sour nor chewy to the point of gnawing your jaw.

The Avo ($8) caught me by surprise because it was pretty much half an avocado, with whipped butter, salt, pepper and two sourdough pieces. Spreading the avocado on the toast and taking a bite, I understood why it made its mark on Ceres Haus’ menu, with its signature whipped butter.

House Of Bao
Alexandra Central #01-13, 321 Alexandra Road, Singapore 159971
Opening Hours: 10am – 9:30pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Fluffy Bao Cafe At Alexandra Central
House of Bao is a casual café that has made the humble nibble the entire concept, located in the quiet mall of Alexandra Central.

The shop recommends the Sweet Peanut Bao ($3 for 2pcs), which is available till 3pm.

While uncommon locally, this is apparently a traditional flavour in Tai Ping. The filling is coarsely grounded peanuts with sugar, just like the dusting for muah chee.

In addition to the traditional flavours, there are a few fancier items. The Crab Krab ($14.90) is a soft-shell crab, chili crab sauce, lettuce and fries combo between two halves of a mantou. The Chicken ($9.30) and Pork Belly ($12.90) are similar concepts.

I had the Chicken Bao ($9.30) included with fried chicken, cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and a small side of fries.

As these Bao Burgers are freshly made on the spot, do give some allowance for waiting.

TAG Espresso – Takashimaya S.C.
Takashimaya Shopping Centre #02-11, 391 Orchard Road, Ngee Ann City, Singapore 238872
Opening Hours: 8am – 10pm (Mon – Fri), 10am – 10pm (Sat, Sun, PH)

Hidden Brunch Cafe At Takashimaya Offers $19.90 Set Lunch With Coffee
One more new café at Takashimaya, this time a home-grown one.

Available from 9am daily, diners can enjoy from a selection of light bites, all-day brunch items, Japanese-fusion rice bowls, pasta, and burgers. Brunch items include the Avocado Toast ($17.90), Crispy Bacon Avocado Egg Benedict ($17.90), Fish and Chips ($24.90) and Big Breakfast ($22.80).

I decided to go for the weekday lunch set ($19.90) available from 11am to 2pm, which included a main and drink. Choose from Prawn Aglio Olio, Carbonara, Truffle Gyudon or Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl; that can be paired with drinks like Latte, Cappuccino, Iced Lemon Tea or Ice Lychee Tea.

The chirpy server recommended that I have the Prawn Aglio Olio ($19.90 ala carte price), which features spaghetti tossed with garlic, olive, red pepper flakes, and this had four pieces of succulent prawns.

For this price in town, I would say this was not bad a choice, which was savoury, garlicky, and slightly spicy with a bit of heat from the flakes.

Desert Dessert – Lengkok Bahru
63B Lengkok Bahru, #01-350, Singapore 152063
Opening Hours: 8am – 11pm (Sun – Thurs), 8am – 12am (Fri – Sat)

Redhill Gelato Cafe Opens From 8AM Daily, With Waffles, Bingsu And Savoury Bites
Desert Dessert Gelato Cafe with an original outlet at Ang Mo Kio, has opened another brand-new cafe at the ground level of Block 63B.

Each Ice Cream scoop is priced at $4 or $5; while a top-up to waffles starts from $3.80. In addition to gelato, the cafe also serves a variety of cakes and pastries.

I ordered the savoury Korean Spicy Chicken on Waffles ($9.90) and enjoyed the crispy chicken thigh pieces (done like karaage style) drizzled over with sweet and spicy sauce.

Consider this an Asian version of Chicken & Waffles, that can be considered as a tea-time snack or light lunch without the heaviness.

Acai Brothers Singapore – Anchorpoint
Anchorpoint #01-02/03/04, 370 Alexandra Rd, Singapore 159953
Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Acai Café From Melbourne Opens At Anchorpoint
While the first Kovan outlet was a whole store by itself, the Anchorpoint outlet is a fair bit smaller given its mall location. Nonetheless, there are some seats littered along and around the main counter.

The process of ordering an Acai bowl comes in two ways. One is to have one of the six pre-designed bowls, and the other is to BYOB (Build Your Own Bowl) from $7.50 onwards.

The specialty ones come in sizes of Regular ($11), Large ($15.50), and Share ($25). What you are seeing in the pictures I took are the “Regular”.

Prices are on the higher side (especially when you look at the sizing) due to the premium ingredients and fruits used.

The café also offers Smoothies ($7.50, $10.50) in flavours of Peanut Butter Nutter, Salted Caramel, and it takes two to tango – and for coffee, they use the “Bro Blend” with malt, chocolate, hazelnut and caramel notes.

Famous Japan’s Specialty Roastery Cafe Opens At Tanjong Pagar With Sandos And French Toast
Established since 1958 with 5 stores in Japan (Osaka, Hyogo, Chiba, Kyoto and Nagano), Takagi Coffee has opened their first international outlet in Singapore.

The Takagi Coffee Original Blend Coffees are roasted to give a dark, rich and strong flavour notes, using their 3-beans house blend from Indonesia, Colombia and Brazil.

Their food menu features Sandwich ($9.80 – $14.80), Burgers ($13.30 – $14.30), Curry Rice ($12.80 – $13.80) from Maji Curry, Tokyo, Salads ($10.80), Souffle Pancakes ($6.40 – $16.40) from belle-ville Pancake Cafe and French Toast ($12.80 – $15.80).

I tried the Mochi Skin Matcha French Toast ($15.80) which comes with Japanese wheat flour brioche, soaked in egg mixture before grilling to give it a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior.

Flavours are pretty refreshing, with citrus-ness from the berry compote that balances with the
sweet-bitter matcha ice cream.

SPACE COFFEE
587 Geylang Rd, #01-01, Singapore 389526
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 5:30pm (Wed – Sun), Closed Mon, Tues

Hidden Industrial-Style Cafe Opens At Geylang
SPACE COFFEE is a new hidden 45-seater cafe space with industrial vibes found at Geylang (note: not related to Space Cafe in Johor Bahru).

Located along one of the shophouses along Geylang Road (opposite the famous JB Ah Meng, SPACE COFFEE is pretty spacious, well-designed to looked like an enclave.

Look out for a lean menu of brunch items, such as B.F.C Salad ($14), Vege Brekkie ($24), Space C.C ($15), Gua ($16), Vege-Mite Toast ($12) and Brioche French ($13).

The Space C.C ($15) caught my attention, a $15 fried carrot cake dish, topped with egg, prawns, chai-po (preserved radish), coriander and house-made sambal sauce.

Also look out for the Brioche French ($13) which would come in 2 huge slabs of fluffy brioche, slathered with chocolate and hazelnut sauce, with gula melaka sauce drizzled on its side.

After Hours Gelato
27 West Coast Highway, #01-07, Singapore 117867
Opening Hours: 2pm – 12am (Mon – Thurs), 1pm – 2am (Fri – Sat), 1pm – 12am (Sun)

Shibuya Toast And Waffles At This West Coast Cafe
After Hours Gelato at West Coast Highway offers a selection of gelato, waffles, and once trending Shibuya Toast.

Flavours are not quite the usual, with Momo Sencha, Chinese Snow Pear, Coconut Lychee, Rum & Raisin, Caramel Latte, Watermelon Soju, Kyoto Uji Matcha, Passionfruit and White Chrysanthemum. These go for $5 a scoop, $9 for double, additional $0.50 for premium flavours.

I started with the Shibuya Toast – they call this the Signature Golden Butter Toast ($9.50 without ice cream) here which is a 3-inch-thick butter toasted served with maple syrup, whipped cream and biscoff crumble.

Even though it was not quite ‘after you’ quality, I enjoyed the buttery-ness, while the whipped cream added a creamy richness.

If not, pick the Classic Waffles ($7) with maple syrup topping, a good combination of sweet and buttery flavours.

Want Food Taiwanese Delights 恋恋湾味 – Holland Village
25 Lor Liput, #01, Singapore 277735
Opening Hours: 10am – 3:30pm, 5pm – 9pm (Mon, Wed – Sun), Closed Tues

Taiwanese Cafe Opens At Holland Village With Lu Rou Fan, Gua Bao And Pork Floss Pancake
Want Food Taiwanese Delights 恋恋湾味 is not an unfamiliar name to Taiwanese food lovers though, with its first Singapore outlet at Cross Street.

Expect to find Lu Rou Fan, Kong Bak Rice, Oyster Intestine Mee Sua, Gua Bao, Salty Crispy Chicken, Crispy Cheese & Pork Floss Egg Pancake, Taiwanese Pork Sausage to Bubble Tea.

First up, the Lu Rou Fan aka Braised Meat Pork Rice. Want Food offers two portions – one as an ala carte bowl ($7.90), the other as a “bento” ($10.90) with some side dishes.

I ordered the Lu Rou Fan Bento ($10.90) as it seemed more value-for-money, which featured a bed of white rice topped with succulent braised pork and braised hard-boiled egg. There was a small portion of added sides of Taiwanese sausage, braised beancurd and vegetables.

The Gua Bao with Pork Belly ($5) came with juicy, flavourful pork belly stuffed in soft, fluffy bun (would have preferred more peanuts for the texture and fragrance).

Quite a decent rendition, and I won’t mind having this again.
