We love the diversity of cafes that just opened in Singapore – from French-style cafes, Japanese franchises, Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng, Korean Bingsu shop, to one that is nicknamed as “Starbucks of China”.

Other than that, New Zealands’ Allpress Espresso is also having a pop-up at 73 Duxton Road.

There is even one found within a Skate Park, and an Art Jamming Cafe, to bring out your sporty or artistic side after you have your café.

With openings scattered around our little Singapore, find one nearest to you that you and your cafe-hopping friends will like.

111 Somerset #01-42, 111 Somerset Road, Singapore 238164
Opening Hours: 9am – 8pm (Mon – Sat) Last order 7:30pm, Closed Sun

Japanese Dessert Cafe At Suntec & 111 Somerset
The Japanese cafe destination to satiate authentic Japanese Matcha Latte, Mochi Ice Cream, Dorayaki Cakes, to Mochi Waffles, Cafe Usagi TOKYO now has two outlets in Singapore.

Whether you visit at Suntec City (Tower 3) or 111 Somerset, expect sweet treats promising authentic preparations and distinct flavours.

Their Dorayaki ($9.90) includes two honey dorayaki sandwiching Japanese strawberries and freshly piped whipped cream – you can choose from Matcha, Strawberry or Yuzu flavours.

I had the Dorayaki with Matcha Cream Cake. The dessert was both sweet and slightly tangy, with a hint of bitterness from the Matcha.

The Handmade Daifuku Fruit Mochi ($6.90) uses seasonal fruit, and is made with Hokkaido red beans paste by Chef Yuka. The paste helps balance the sweetness of the ice cream with its slightly nutty taste.

The strawberry filling was my favourite, with a juicy-sweet and slightly tangy taste that perfectly complements the subtle sweetness of the mochi.

Asusual
75 Kampong Bahru Road, Singapore 169375 (Outram MRT)
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 10pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

Aesthetic Cafe At Outram With Brunch And Art Jamming Studio
Asusual cafe was very aesthetic in its Instagram-mable, wooden theme, looking straight out of a Pinterest board.

Upstairs, you would be led to an art jamming studio, where a 3-hour session costs $35 per pax, with a drink.

The menu has an all-day breakfast range, namely the Ultimate Big Breakfast ($24), Thick French Toast with Strawberry Compote ($18), and Brown Butter Buttermilk Pancakes ($20).

Their Thick French Toast with Strawberry Compote ($18) was Brioche dusted with icing sugar, and accompanied with bacon, strawberries, blueberries and a strawberry compote.

The dish came warm and every bite was comforting. The bacon added a savoury balance to the sweet brioche, berries and zesty compote.

From the Pizza menu, I ordered the Truffle Pizza ($25) which had truffle cream, mozzarella, cheddar, oyster mushrooms, parmesan shavings and rocket leaves. It was big enough to feed 2-3 people.

The flavours meld together with the truffle not being too overpowering, that you can taste the creaminess, cheese and mushrooms too.

Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes
466 Crawford Lane, #01-08, Singapore 190466
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 9pm (Mon – Fri), 10am – 11:30pm (Sat), 10am – 4pm (Sun)

Taro-Themed Cafe At Lavender
Cafe Lilac by Whisking Bakes at Crawford Lane is supposedly the first taro café in Singapore, and has undergone a revamp with a bigger space and expanded menu.

With the bigger space, you get to enjoy the Taro baked goods and coffee without feeling that cramped.

Hot savoury food is included in the menu now. Expect Sandos ($5.50), All Day Mini Breakfast ($8.50), HK Style Nissin Noodles ($6.00) to Korean Army Stew Ramyeon ($6.50).
To go with the taro theme, I had the Taro Pork Floss Sando ($5.50).

The taro supposedly would add a distinct earthy and nutty flavour to the bread, which would complement the savoury taste of the pork floss.

Over on the dessert side, there are the Taro-Misu ($7.50), Taro Mochi Swiss Roll ($6.50), Taro Burnt Cheesecake ($8), Taro Chiffon Cake ($8.50), Taro Crepe Cake ($8), to Taro Choux ($8).

You have some really affordable caffeine available too, with Americano ($3.50) and Flat White ($5.50) freshly pulled.

The Fat Kid Bakery
39 Amoy Street, Singapore 069865 (Telok Ayer MRT)
Opening Hours: 8am – 5pm (Mon – Thurs), 8am – 6:30pm (Fri), 10:30am – 4pm (Sat), Closed Sun

Sourdough Donuts ‘Bombos’ With Luscious Fillings At Amoy Street
The Fat Kid Bakery is no stranger to the scene, first starting as a HBFB (home-based food business) then a brick and mortar store in 2021.

Since then, they have moved to Amoy Street where they have been open since the third week of April.

Do take note, there is no sitting area, so customers will buy items off the shelves or pick up their online pre orders here to take away.

On the menu, you would find sweet cream-filled Sourdough Donuts which affectionately named ‘Bombos’.

The dough itself of the Bombo was light and airy with a big of that Sourdough tang. It was a delightful surprise as I was expecting a messy affair, but was easy to tear apart.

The Seasalt Maple Bombo ($5.50) was filled with sweet cream which had hints of maple syrup.
The saltiness of the sea salt gave a good contrast to the sweet treat which made it more enjoyable.

The Ride Side Skate Cafe
108 Yuan Ching Rd, #01-01, Rainforest Pavilion @ Jurong Lake Gardens, Singapore 619617
Opening Hours: 10am – 9:30pm (Tue – Fri), 8am – 9:30pm (Sat – Sun), Closed Mon

Lakeside Cafe At Singapore’s Biggest Skate Park With Tasty Burgers And Hearty Fare
Located in the biggest skate park in Singapore, The Ride Side Skate Cafe was created in collaboration with local F&B brand – The Assembly Ground.

The menu offers what could be called elevated fast food like Trick Stacker Burger ($11.90), Buttermilk Chicken Burger ($9.90), The Ride Side Melt ($10.90), and Cajun Chicken Sandwich ($9.90).

I tried their Buttermilk Chicken Burger ($9.90) and instantly thought ‘this reminds me of *the fast food chain with the burger thief*’s. It had crispy buttermilk battered chicken, vintage cheddar, coleslaw and mayonnaise. I found the burger to be addictive, with that crispy layer of buttermilk batter.

The meat within the patty was a bit dry (perhaps to do with the cut), but was delicious when paired well with slaw within the burger – crispy, simple, and delightful.

The coffee blend used here is a dark roast blend, with great appeal, roasted by State of Affairs.

Two Bake Boys Cafe

Crepe Cake Cafe & Baking Studio At Shaw Plaza

There is also baking studio incorporated.

Each layer of crepe cake is hand-made from scratch and takes up to 6 hours to complete as it is labour-intensive to make alternating layers of crepe and fresh cream.

Thai milk tea was infused into each layer of crepe, alongside an accompanying Thai tea sauce to drizzle on it for the extra oomph.

Alchemist – 71 Robinson Road
71 Robinson Road, #01-01, Singapore 068895
Opening Hours: 8am – 5pm (Mon – Fri), 9am – 6pm (Sat), Closed Sun

Get Your Caffeine Fix At This NEW CBD Cafe
If you are on the hunt for a simple and no-frills coffee experience in the Central Business District, look no further than Alchemist.

This small coffee joint started out in May 2016, serving the community around International Plaza, and has now expanded to six outlets across Singapore, including their newest addition at 71 Robinson Road.

An Espresso starts from $3.50, while they have the usual such as White ($5.50, $6.50), Mocha ($6, $7), and Chocolate ($6). Changing to oat or soy milk cost a dollar extra.

The filter menu rotates from time to time, so it is best to check in store.

Plan A Dessert Café
The Star Vista #02-27A, 1 Vista Exchange Green, Singapore 138617
Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Sun – Thurs), 11am – 12am (Fri – Sat)

Korean Bingsu And Croissant Bakes Cafe At The Star Vista
This lowkey dessert café does Korean snow ice, coming in about thirteen flavours spread across what is called the “all time favourites” and “fruits” versions.

Meiji fresh milk is used for the snow ice, which gives each scoop a milky and smooth mouthfeel.

Flavours include Cookies & Cream ($12.90), Milo ($12.90), Green Tea Lover ($15.90), Cookies & Cream Madness ($15.90), and Choco Bananas ($14.90).

I had the Melon Bingsu ($17.90). Apart from its taste, the presentation of Bingsu was also a draw for many customers, with the toppings arranged neatly on top of the shaved ice.

The shaved ice was refreshing and cool, and the texture milky and fluffy – better than the average ones out there.

Green Tea Nature ($15.90) is the recommended combination for first-timers. The snow ice is infused with green tea for a earthy flavour, and topped with plump and sweet Japanese azuki red beans.

Those are all great for sharing, but for one, a number of petite size choices are available.

Friends Kitchen HK
78 Neil Road, Singapore 088841
Opening Hours: 11am – 3pm, 5pm – 11pm (Mon, Wed – Sun), Closed Tues

Hong Kong Cafe Opens At Neil Road With Extensive Menu And Nostalgic Decor
Branded as Friends Kitchen HK 朋友小厨, this is designed with nostalgic decor serving Hong Kong café style food and dishes.

The eatery has expanded from their once solo-store in Springside Walk, to Neil Road.

Yes, Neil Road which is of walking distance from Maxwell MRT station has enjoyed quite a revival of late with many F&B openings.

The cafe’s interior is designed to resemble an old Hong Kong tea house, with antique furniture, vintage posters, and retro signage adorning the walls.

As a fan of satay beef served in cha chaan teng, I was inclined to order the Satay Beef with Scrambled Egg Sandwich ($7.60) as this is seldom seen in Singapore.

The dish consists of marinated strips of beef in satay sauce, sandwiched into crispy, buttery toast along with scrambled eggs.

Friends Kitchen HK also offers a range of classic Hong Kong café style dishes, such as French Toast ($6), Bolo Bun ($4.60), Curry Fish Balls ($5.60), Ham Macaroni ($10) and Spiced Pork Cube Gong Zai Noodles ($10).

This would probably be the safer choices, since they had experience with the older place at Springside Walk.
