The coffee space is not the easiest to get to, tucked away in the erstwhile police barracks it is in.

The menu includes simple yet comforting Fruit Salad ($10) and Bircher Muesli ($14), to the more decadent French Toast Shokupan ($12).

ToMo

Japanese-Style Cafe At Joo Chiat, With Sando And Matcha Strawberry Cloud Latte
ToMo terms itself as a Japanese style café that serves simple and hearty food – including vegetarian options, so one can expect Japanese elements in their menu.

Enter via the pretty arch at its entrance, to ToMo’s clean and contemporary interior, decked in earthy tones, wooden elements and different shades of green that give a tropical vibe.

The Grilled Prawn Capellini ($22) was well-balanced in flavour, with sweetness and briny taste from the ebi, while the grilled prawn added some complexity after being torched.

Apart from pasta, they also serve Sando using Japanese Shokupan (milk bread). The Sando selection includes Wagyu beef ($21), Chicken Namban ($16), Katsu ($20) and Cold Crab ($22).

Their tater tots were light bites perfect for sharing, with two flavours to choose from – Furikake (Half $6.50/ Full $12) and Truffle (Half $7/ Full $13).

Using a 2-beans blend of India and Brazil from Cowpresso for their espresso-based drinks, the robust chocolatey and butty profile of the coffee was balanced by the sweetness from the honeycomb for their Honeycomb Latte ($7).

Bloom
118 Killiney Road, #01-01, Singapore 239555
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 5pm (Mon – Sun)

Spacious Bakery Cafe with Asian-Inspired Brunch Near Somerset
Bloom is a new café that has opened its doors in Killiney Road, located in a row of shops under a condominium.

The café is designed with different sections, offering patrons an array of seating options.

A quick scan through the menu reveals some items that are classics and some items with a distinct Asian spin.

The Masala Omelette ($18) was a blend of South Asian influences, the symphony of green chilli, onion, cilantro, tomato, and mango salsa does take the omelette game to the next level.

For a heftier lunch, the best stuffs are the Squid Ink Linguine ($22), Gochujang Fried Chicken Burger ($22) and Seabass En Papilotte ($24).

For a sweet treat, try surveying the glass counter – a visual treat, filled with freshly baked goods. What’s a cafe visit without coffee? The blends in Bloom are either Toby’s Woolloomooloo Blend (chocolatey) or the Massaya Organic Single Origin (full-bodied).

M5 Coffee 介丘咖啡
Orchard Gateway B1-01, 277 Orchard Road, Singapore 238858
Opening Hours: 10:30am – 8:30pm (Mon – Sun)

Cafe From Taiwan Opens At Somerset, With Pretty “Mount Faber” Blue Coffee Drink
M5 Coffee 介丘咖啡 aims to capture the spirit of Taiwan’s unique geographical characteristics, presenting them in a delightful cup of coffee.

The café’s design plays with cream tones and light wood furnishings, creating an inviting, cosy atmosphere reminiscent of a welcoming home. Compact in size, it is more of a takeaway than a sit down store.

For a small shop, M5 Coffee 介丘咖啡 does have quite a variety of offerings.

Exclusive to Singapore, the Mount Faber drink ($7) is a must-try for something on your Instagram feed, I guess. The result is a flavour profile as intriguing as its appearance, with the sweet syrup and salty undertones creating a contrast against the robust coffee.

On to cakes, The Burnt Cheese Cake ($8), which was more reminiscent of a typical cheesecake than the molten variety, was at least still rich, creamy, and satisfyingly decadent.

FYP (For You People) Cafe – Orchard Central
Orchard Central #04-22, 181 Orchard Road, Singapore 238896

Big Big Fries And Whiskdom In Camping-Themed Cafe At Orchard Road
Take a trip to the fourth floor of Orchard Central, where For You People awaits.

The cafe falls under the collaboration between two concepts, Big Big Fries and Whiskdom.

With the new concept, both savoury snacks and sweet desserts can be had at once, in a community built for “you people”. The space is complete with foldable camping chairs and picnic tables, going for a vibe that has elements of a lazy Sunday picnic.

A plate of Big Big Fries ($12.90) is mandatory. It goes much bigger than twice the size of a regular shoestring fry, and topped off with sauces to choose from such as Himalayan Pink Salt, Nacho Cheese, Chicken Floss Special, Seaweed Mayonnaise, Truffle Mayonnaise, and Mentaiko Mayonnaise.

Time for dessert – Cookies ($6.50) or Brownies ($6.50) made with love by Whiskdom, available in a Box of 6 ($38).

Their best-seller cookies are the Chunky Chocolate Chip, Crème Brulee, Chocolate Smores and more may be found.

Ciel Patisserie
Thomson V One #01-03, 9 Sin Ming Road, Singapore 575630
Opening Hours: 11am – 8pm (Mon – Sun)

Dessert Cafe Brings French-Inspired Sweet Treats to Upper Thomson
Ciel Patisserie previously found at Hougang, is known for its array of French-inspired pastries and sweets. The patisserie-café has moved to the heart of Upper Thomson at Thomson V One, Sin Ming Road.

The diverse bakes available to buy include tarts, cakes and quiches such as Fresh Fruit Tart ($6.80), Chocolate Caramel Tart ($6.80), Mon Cheri ($8.50), Blanc ($8.50), Opera ($7.50) to Oreo Cheesecake ($6.50).

The new entries on the menu particularly caught my attention.

The Black Sesame Tart ($7.80) was a tantalising combination of sesame frangipane, sesame cremeux, and a baked tuile atop a charcoal tart shell.

Another new selection is the Matcha Tart ($7.80). The earthy bitterness of the matcha was balanced by the sweetness of the tart.

If you want to go for their signatures, then it would be the Lemon Meringue Tart ($6.80) with buttery, crisp crust filled with lush, tangy lemon cream and crowned with a silky Italian meringue.

Nakey
10 Trengganu Street, Singapore 058464
Opening Hours: 8am – 6pm (Mon – Sun)

Bombolone Donut & Bagel Cafe At Chinatown To Check Out
Nakey is yet another addition to the growing number of cafes and dessert places in the area, located at 10 Trengganu Street (Chinatown MRT station Exit A).

The highlight of Nakey’s menu is undoubtedly their Bombolone-style donuts. These Italian-inspired donuts are round and filled with various delectable flavours.

The Nutty Praline ($6) flavour offers a combination of creamy nutty and sweet praline filling, covered by sugared pillowy though.

The “Custard Bastard” ($5.50) donut is also recommended if you prefer something more classic, with its smooth and creamy custard filling that ooze with every bite. For those looking for a more refreshing option, the Lemon Basil ($6) donut provides a zesty experience.

Customers can also choose spreads for the bagels, from Orange Marmalade to Pistachio Jam, Garlic Cream Cheese to Bechamel, there is something to suit every taste preference.

State of Affairs
41 Sunset Way, #01-08, Singapore 597071
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 4:30pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Sunset Way Cafe Opens From 7:30AM, With All Day Breakfast And Good Coffee

Inside State of Affairs is an industrial vibe, created by limewashed walls and bare concrete floors as the choice of décor.

Whereas the original branch in Upper Thomson serves sandwiches and small bites, the new counterpart does all day breakfasts and “solos”.

For an all-American favourite, ask for the Grilled Cheese ($13) with an add-on Tomato Soup ($4).

Between the golden slices of toasts is a mix of cheddar, gouda, and brie cheese, offering a balance between sharpness, smoothness, and sweetness. Dunk the bread in the soup for some acidity and you will realise how fast the breakfast goes down.

Near noon is prime time for even more good stuff to start coming out of the kitchen.

As to the coffee, which the café affectionately calls “Affairs of the Cup”, there are mostly Black ($4) and White ($5) options.

The blend uses beans from Brazil and Tanzania, creating notes of blackcurrant, vanilla, and milk chocolate. It goes particularly well on its own, but the options with milk do turn the flavour up a notch.

Cafe Margaret
32 Bali Lane, Singapore 189868
Opening Hours: 10am – 8pm (Mon – Sun)

Popular Korean CubePie Cafe Opens A Double-Storey Shophouse Near Bugis
Visit this brand which was brought over to Singapore from Korea, and you can find a a quaint, cosy, homely setting with an alfresco courtyard and many “rooms” in the multi-storey mansion.

The CubePie is their signature item—a laminated pastry with 72 flaky layers, filled with various sweet creams.

My favorite was the Matcha Cream CubePie ($8.30), drizzled with matcha ganache and matcha powder on the surface and piped with a generous amount of matcha cream inside.

While the laminated pastry gave off a slight buttery sweetness that enhanced the sweetness in the matcha cream, I personally preferred stronger and more robust and earthy tea notes.

The Real Vanilla CubePie ($7.80) used full vanilla beans in it and had a more subtle taste, unfortunately overshadowed by the buttery pastry.

Exclusive to the Singapore branch are the Pound Cakes: Juicy Lemon ($7.50) and Raspberry ($7.50), which are shaped like Bundt cakes with distinctive donut shapes.
