One of the most popular stalls at Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre Toa Payoh Lor 7, Hai Nan Xing Zhou Beef Noodle 海南星洲牛肉粉 serves up bowls of old-school-style of Hainanese Beef Noodles.

It used to be located at Cuppage Centre many years ago. This may bring back loads of memories.

In case you are a Beef Noodle fan, some of the well-known stalls in Singapore include Hwa Heng Beef Noodles (Bendemeer Food Centre), Hong Kee Beef Noodle (Amoy Street Food Centre), Kheng Fatt Hainanese Beef Noodles (Golden Mile Food Centre), Hong Heng Beef Noodle (Ang Mo Kio Kebun Bahru Food Centre), Zheng Yi Hainanese Beef Noodles (Tai Thong Crescent), Joo Chiat Beef King (various locations), and Blanco Court Beef Noodles (Aperia Mall).

The humble-looking stall is also recently listed in the Michelin Guide Singapore 2022 with a Bib Gourmand, together with LiXin Teochew Fishball Noodles from the same food centre.

When I visited during a weekend, there was surprisingly not too long a queue.

The stall serves up Beef Noodles in soup or dry versions affordably priced at $5, while there are options of sliced beef, beef balls, beef stomach, and tendon combinations ($5 – $8).

The dry version came with generous serving of starchy dark sauce, added with peanuts and kiam chye (salted vegetables).

The sauce had pretty smooth consistency, though I was wondering why it was comparatively very sweet. Perhaps an off-day for them?

The beef slices were thinly sliced and tender, and they do not use any tenderisers on the meat.

The accompanying soup base is cooked with beef, cattle bones and different Chinese herbs supposedly simmered for several days, based on a recipe on the owners’ father.

Also on the sweet side, and so perhaps may need some getting used to.
