When you talk about delicious Fishball Noodles in Singapore, Thye Hong Fishball Noodles, Ru Ji Kitchen, and Fishii Tales may be some of the familiar names.

Now, do you know they are all part of the same family?

Which brings me to this stall at Ghim Moh Food Centre… Hock Lye Noodles House & Fishii Tales.

The stall is newly listed in the Singapore Michelin Guide.

This is a two-in-one stall – one side serving Prawn Noodles and the other Fishball Noodles.

Hock Lye Noodles House & Fishii Tales is a Ng family affair.

Fishii Tales was started by two siblings in 2015, and Hock Lye Noodles House seems to be the continuation of the original stall owned by the father.

To add to some confusion, Fishii Tales was originally from Amoy Street Food Centre but subsequently moved over to join Hock Lye Noodles House at Ghim Moh.

What makes their handmade Fishballs so good?

Apart from the technique and the recipe, another reason is probably the family love that the owners put into making each and every one of them.

Making their way through generations, they have found their own way to stick true to the recipes and maintain consistency.

Ghim Moh is also a great location to set up shop, plus it is just next to Thye Hong.

For the noodle house items, start with their Prawn Noodle ($3.50, $4, $5), in soup or in dry form. Pork Ribs Noodles ($4, $5, $6) are also available.

Whole peeled prawns, sliced pork and fishcakes round out the noodles.

I thought that the Prawn Noodles had a familiar old-school taste, the prawn and pork ribs-infused broth was on the milder side, only moderately rich.

Would say this was a slightly-better-than-average rendition, though nothing was really exceptional when you talk about the separate components.

The Fishball & Meatball Noodle ($3.50) was my preferred bowl. You get the best of both worlds on top of a bed of mee pok.

The fishballs are made with only the flesh of the fish, without any flour added.

It is simply mixed with the right amount of water to create a firm and springy texture.

And the real crown jewel in all was probably those handmade meatballs, made using their own recipe to give it a particular taste and form.

They had a good bite and was quite succulent. So perhaps you even get a whole bowl of it at $3.50.

And the noodles, cooked to a firm bite, are the good accompaniment to the meatballs and fishballs. The slices of fishcake in the bowl are also homemade.

For a stall born out of family heritage, it has carried the torch more than well. Go for the meatballs.
