[Phuket] Of all the Phuket Michelin Bib Gourmand street food, I was actually most keen to try Go Benz Rice Porridge โกเบ๊นซ์ข้าวต้มแห้งภูเก็ต due to its offering of “Dry Pork Porridge” and Crispy Pork.

A Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee since 2019, Go Benz Porridge is a popular pork ‘porridge’ place for both locals and tourists.

While it is at Phuket Town, it is not right smacked in the centre, and you may have to walk about 15 minutes to get there.

Although the restaurant is quite large with ample seating, be ready to wait in line, especially during peak times of the day.

Diners mostly come at night, and night owls love the fact their open till way past midnight daily.

Even though the opening hours stated 5:30pm, the restaurant was already quite full by 5:15pm.

Service is quick, so the food is ready once you are about to get a seat.

In the meantime, you can always watch the chefs prepare all the yummy delights in their open kitchen on the side. (I saw a fleet of delivery riders waiting by the side of the road.)

The menu is limited, focusing on Rice Porridge (Kao Tom), Rolled Rice Noodle Soup, Pork Organ Soup, Boiled Pork Ribs, and Specialty Pork dishes. Go Benz has been serving these items for over 20 years.

Prices at 70 to 150 baht (SGD2.70 to SGD5.80) per dish. This is undoubtedly a place that pork lovers will truly enjoy.

Customise your dish by specifying the noodles you want, whether you prefer thick or flat noodles, egg or rice noodles.

The Dry Boiled Rice with Pork Ribs (Kao Tom Kradook Moo) is a favourite. But if your taste is a bit more adventurous, go with the Kao Lao Luad Moo, a broth-based dish with boiled pork blood and pork offal.

The Dry Pork Rice with a bit of soup in a separate bowl is a slightly more common preference.

You’ll also get minced pork, pork intestines, pork liver, pork meat, fried shallots and chopped spring onions along with the rice.

When it arrived, I realised it was something like “Pao Fan” that Singaporeans would be familiar with.

You could try the dry rice on its own first to appreciate the fragrance of the shallots, then the soup as you wished.

The ‘power’ was in the broth, peppery and flavourful with the sweet essence of the pork. (Reminded me of Bak Kut Teh, except that this was not as sharp-tasting in terms of the pepper used.)

If you would rather have the broth as the main element instead of the rice, then just opt for the Pork Rice Porridge.

Either way, every spoonful of pork cuts and the rich pork-based fragrant broth make for a flavoursome combination.

The Crispy Pork (Mookrob) is a dish made by deep-frying strips of pork belly until they are golden brown and crunchy.

So the skin has a delightful crisp, and the meat has a pull to it – served with a side of dark sweet dipping sauce.

Experience classic street food at Go Benz’s open-air setting.

Pair your meal with some Thai-style iced tea or coffee, or cool down with a glass of Roselle Juice, Longan Juice, or cold chrysanthemum tea.

Go Benz Rice Porridge is all about comfort food, perfect for a satisfying, warm, and heartening dinner or supper.

In case you are wondering I was there alone and finished all those up. Worth a visit when you are in Phuket Town.
