These are 10 Cafes offering some healthier food choices within the CBD (ie Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar), such as rice bowls (with choice of grains), salads and sandwiches. And coffee of course.

Kraftwich
One Raffles Place Tower 1 #B1-04/05 Singapore 048616 (Raffles Place MRT)
Tel: +65 6438 5730
Opening Hours: 7.30am – 9.00pm (Mon – Fri), 9.00am – 3.30pm (Sat – Sun)
https://www.facebook.com/kraftwichsg

Kraftwich is where you can ‘KRAFT’ your own sandWICHes and salads, a brand-new concept by Swissbake which has been known for premium quality European bread and confectionery products.

These kraftwiches are actually pizza-sized sandwiches, cut up into triangular shapes, made of multigrain and maize bread, and filled with wholesome ingredients.

It is almost like your typical sandwiches, but with a layer of crusty bread, packed full of nutritious multigrain. The good thing is: These are healthy and filling, but yet not bland and boring.

I really liked the dark-coloured multigrain bread, already appearing chockful of fibre containing the healthy grains including wheat, soya, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, rye, and oats.

Joe & The Juice
30 Raffles Place, Chevron House #01-35A Singapore 039803
Tel: +65 6221 2126
Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm (Mon – Fri), 11am – 3pm (Sat)

The Joe & The Juice chain first originated from Copenhagen, founded by a former elite sports karate fighter who first wanted to design healthy delicious quick-fix meal options for athletes.

It has become quite a success, with the Danish-Scandinavian inspired juice bar and café opening up across 70 cities.

The sandwiches offered are quite unlike the typical, using dark, thin, crispy grilled bread imported all the way from Denmark.

Best for those who crave for a sandwich but are not extreme fans of carbs. Joe and The Juice’s sandwich is like a ciabatta meets our local grilled toast. There are options of Avocado, Chicken and Avocado, Turkey, Spicy Tuna, and Serrano ham.

The Providore @ Raffles Place
7 Raffles Place Singapore 048625
Tel: +65 6533 1352
Opening Hours: 8am – 11pm (Mon – Sat), 9am – 6pm (Sun, PH)

This flagship at Raffles can be considered a café and provisions retail store, for dine-in meals and quick takeaways. There is even an outdoor terrace.

The menu consist of Breakfast (from 8am – 12pm), Salads (11am – 10pm), Sandwiches (11am – 3pm), Mains (12pm – 10pm), Snacks (5pm – 10pm) and pastries.

The Crispy Calamari with Rocket ($19.50) presented itself as quite a healthy version, and its dressing of lemon added some bright zest and taste.

Workspace Espresso
Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3, 12 Marina Boulevard, #01-08, Singapore 018982
Opening Hours: 7.30am – 8pm (Mon-Fri), Closed Sat, Sun

A concept similar to Grain Traders at Market Street (550m away), with coffee and bakes offerings in the morning (7.30am – 11.30am) and build-your-own-rice bowls- after 11.30am.

Huge bowls and containers were displayed at the counter during lunch hours, from carbohydrates as a base to proteins, sides and dressing.

At $13.80, we were given the choice to choose 1 base, 1 hot protein, 3 sides, 2 toppings and an optional dressing.

Add-ons were available at $2 for base, $3.50 for hot protein, $2 for sides and $1 for dressing.

NUDE Seafood
Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3 #01-02, Singapore 018982 (Marina MRT Station – Downdown line, or 15 min walk from Raffles Place MRT)
Tel: +65 6443 1167
Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm

CBD dwellers have been flocking to NUDE Seafood, conveniently located at Marina Bay Financial Centre, offering a repertoire of seafood, salads, some desserts and coffee. Beans are from Common Man Coffee Roasters, prepared in a Synesso machine.

Nothing too raunchy about the name “NUDE Seafood”, embodying the concept of NUtritious and Delicious.

A dish that caught our attention was the Norway flown Hickory-smoked Salmon. I mean, who could resist sushi-grade salmon, accompanied with savoury, smoked beetroot cubes and forgotten grains.

Aloha Poke
92 Amoy Street, Singapore 069911 (Telok Ayer MRT)
Tel: +65 6221 6165
Opening Hours: 11.30am – 2.30pm, 5.30pm – 11pm (Mon-Sat, Closed Sun)

PO-KE? Originating from the islands of Hawaii, this dish traditionally comprises raw fish marinated in soy and sesame sauce, tossed with sesame seeds, sweet onions and scallions.

There are three standard sizes of Poke bowls – the Lil’ Swell ($11.90) that comes with 1 scoop of 75g Poke, Standard Nalu ($15.90) with 2 scoops of 150g Poke and Big Kahuna ($19.90) with 3 scoops of 225g Poke.

Complete your poke bowl with a base of either white rice, brown rice, a mix of both, or salad only, followed by two complimentary add-ons and one complimentary superfood. Expect ingredients like flying fish roe, quail eggs and edamame.

Elements & Co.
137 Cecil Street #01-02 Singapore 069537 (Tanjong Pagar MRT)
Opening Hours: 8am – 6pm (Mon-Fri)

Elements & Co. themes themselves as a lifestyle space, bringing together all the different elements from the owners’ travel adventures.

The Frenchie’s Summer Salad ($13) was quite a good mix of textures with the puy lentils, zucchini, kale, promegranate, sunflower seeds, mesclun and chicken fillet.

Vegetarians can opt for the Mediterranean Quinoa Salad ($11) instead.

YOLO
Icon Village 12 Gopeng Street Singapore 078877 (Tanjong Pagar MRT)
Opening Hours: 8am – 9:30pm (Mon-Sat), 11am – 3pm (Sun)

Whether you are a gym junkie, office worker looking to lose some weight, or a closet carnivore who is attempting to have your greens, there seems to be something for everyone at YOLO.

I liked its informative and colourfully-designed menu, filled with buzz words from “gluten free”, “low-GI”, “xx gram protein”, “healthy fats”, “high fibre”, “dairy free”, “balanced” and calorie count … you kind of know what you are in for.

Items are clearly divided into Build (for salads with high protein content), Glow (helping skin look younger – serious?), Perform, Shape Up (to try to get that beach bod) and Sooth (for gluten, diary, wheat intolerant).

Ninja Bowl
15 Duxton Road Singapore 089481
Tel: +65 6222 8055
Opening Hours: 9:30am – 7:30pm (Mon – Fri), 9am – 6pm (Sat – Sun)

Ninja Bowl serves healthy bowls and other intriguingly sounding brunch items. A note is that prices quoted on the menu are NETT, and the listed pricing for the bowls comes without rice or greens.

A further top up of $2 is necessary for Ninja Rice, Orzo or Garden Greens, and $3 for Quinoa.

I was recommended the Kaisen Bowl ($16), filled with pan-seared Hokkaido scallops, mussels, mixed mushrooms, carrots and lemon butter sauce.

This was with the choice of Ninja Rice, a blend of vinegared Japanese pearl rice and brown rice, as its base.

Absolute Acai
3 Pickering Street. #01-38 Nankin Row Singapore 048660
Tel: +65 62244088
Opening Hours: 9.30am – 8.30pm (Mon – Fri), Closed Sat – Sun

Absolute Acai is another café specialised in serving Brazilian Acai bowls (Acai na Tigela), this time in Singapore’s CBD area at Pickering Street.

If you haven’t come across it yet, the reddish purple Acai berries from Brazil are touted as the superfood supposedly with anti-aging and weight loss properties.

Its Medium Signature Bowl is at $9.50, Brazilian Bowl $7.50, Breakfast Smoothie $6.50 with an optional DIY Bowl at $6.90 with toppings from $0.50 onwards.

This entry is brought to you in partnership with SHOU Slimming.

SHOU Slimming uses non-invasive fat removal treatment using ultrasound waves to break down stubborn fats deposits and cellulite on targeted problem areas.

After which, infrared rays are used to stimulate the lymphatic system to speed up the elimination of liquefied fat.

After weeks of treatment at SHOU, I must say so far so good.

Treatment is free from any use of pills, any injections, any special diets and any meal supplements.

And they know my situation – that I food-blog. So they advice suitable treatments accordingly.

Jeans are getting looser, and maybe, maybe one day the abs will surface. LOL. Plus, what I really like – NO HARD SELL.
