Ms Durian Speciality Bakery & Café started out as a tiny shop at Potong Pasir, and moved to a flagship store at 11 Kelantan Road, Jalan Besar.

The standalone café venue stretches out to over 10,000 square feet, and is a couple of minutes’ walk from Jalan Besar MRT Station.

Even though the cafe has been there since early 2022, they are finally ready to launch it with fuller spread of items after “a full year of renovation and many additional months of R&D”.

Differentiating themselves from the rest in terms of offerings, their primary focus is on durian-inspired desserts instead of the whole durian fruit.

Other than a selection of Durian confectionaries, they now offer a Mao Shan Wang Afternoon Tea Set and brunch items.

Ms Durian freshly bakes the durian confectioneries daily on-site, using premium Mao Shan Wang durians that are freshly deseeded in-house.

The durian café is considered huge in Singapore’s context, though there would be a light lingering smell of the King of Fruits in the air-conditioned space – love it or hate it.

If not, there is an outdoor space which can be quite cooling.

Ms Durian offers 3 types of durian cakes including the MSW Durian Cake ($12.50), Whisky MSW Durian Cake ($14.50), and 24K MSW Durian Cheese Cake ($25).

You would realise that it is slightly smaller than usual, making it suitable for an afternoon treat. Some may feel it is slightly pricey considering this is per slice.

The MSW Durian Cake ($12.50) contained alternating layer of pure Mao Sha Wang, light vanilla sponge, and Madagascar vanilla Chantilly cream.

The vanilla sponge was light, moist and fluffy and complemented well with the heavier flavour of the durian.

Another well-loved item is the Durian Craquelin ($2.20).

Creamy D24 durian cream is freshly piped into each choux puff, with a layer of craquelin brioche dough on the outer layer.

There are also offerings of all-day brunch item of Pan-Seared Salmon ($29), Chicken Butter Chicken ($24), Salmon Rilette with Sourdough ($24), Smoked Duck Eggs Benny ($22), Grilled Mushroom ($20), Scrambled Eggs ($20), and Smoked Duck Aglio Olio ($18.50).

Take your pick from 3 types of Afternoon Tea sets ($45 onwards) with food items that are varying in durian intensities – they would recommend starting with those of lighter intensities (such as D24) then move on to the richer items.

Each set also comes with a house-brew tea pairing.

Whether you are looking for a fancy afternoon tea session or looking for a hideout to chill after a long day, there should be something for every durian lover at Ms Durian.
