[Bangkok] One of Ekkamai’s most popular coffee since its arrival, Kaizen Coffee is a real hangout spot for brews and brunches – with a little dash of Melbourne magic.

So if you are planning to visit Ekkamai for coffee, put this in your itinerary somewhere.

The coffee bar was started by three friends in April 2015, who were fascinated by Australia’s coffee scene.

It used to be hidden in a building and was a well-loved secret hangout kept by locals until photos of their desserts and drinks ‘exploded’ on Instagram.

After which, they moved into the current two storeys high building in 2019, which is as much of an attraction as the coffee itself.

Everything is impeccably designed to be cosy, clean, and sleek, however you want to call it.

The ability to look out through the floor-to-ceiling glass walls and sip on a cup of coffee at the same time, is a special one.

Even if you are averse to coffee, the spread of breakfast and brunch is wide and delectable.

They have a rather extensive “breakfast & brunch” menu, offering Classic Breakkie (360 THB), Miso Eggs & Smoked Salmon (365 THB), Bacon Toast & Avocado (365 THB), The Italian Banger (395 THB), to Poached Chicken Sandwich (385 THB).

Have the brunch favourite of cafegoers all around the world, the Eggs Benedict Smoked Salmon (THB 385). It is as classic as it gets, with a brioche toast, poached eggs, and hollandaise to top. You know the drill.

If you prefer something more interesting, there is the Miso Scrambled Eggs (365 THB) with smoked salmon and salad.

How about the Yuzu & Lemon French Toast (THB 295)?

There is nothing wrong with having ice cream for breakfast, which is what you will get in this sweet dish, together with a brioche French toast and a decadent vanilla sauce.

One thing to note is that since Kaizen Coffee closes by late afternoon, make sure you get in your lunch fix a little earlier.

For this, there is a Fettucini Anchovy (THB 365). On one hand, there is the freshness from pesto, tomatoes, and basil; on the other, the umami of the anchovies comes through loud and clear.

Oh, remember to get your coffee, perhaps a Flat White (THB 130), Kaizen Iced Coffee (160 THB), and Iced Black (180 THB) which are the common choices.

Much like the coffee capital’s fixation on the basic characteristics of coffee beans, so does Kaizen draw on that influence and deliver on the basics.

There is nothing too over-the-top, in the hopes that the quality will show for itself.
