Bagels, bagels, bagels.
Bagel shops are opening up in many places in Singapore, but Two Men Bagel House is still one of the best-known and well-liked bagel places.
With outlets at Tanjong Pagar (Icon Village Altez), Novena (Royal Square), and Holland Village, the bagel shop is popular for its fresh hand-rolled bagels filled with exciting ingredients.
Sealing the deal to be one of the most hipster areas for café hoppers, Joo Chiat has welcomed a new outlet of Two Men Bagel House (it took over where The Communal Place used to be).
Other new Joo Chiat cafes include LUNA Patisserie, Humble Origins Coffee Roasters, Olsen Bakehouse, and Nimbus.
The chain is opened by “two men” Jerome Lam and Jereborne Lam (nope, not brothers) who were break-dancing friends since teenagers, saw the bagel craze in other countries and believed it would take off in Singapore.
The bagels are hand-rolled, boiled and then baked, resulting in a dense, chewy, doughy interior, with a donut-like exterior.
Customers can choose from plain, sesame, cheddar, garlic, to “all-sorts” of bagels.
While the Bagelwich menu at Joo Chiat is not fixed yet, some of the Two Men Bagel House classics you can look forward to include the Lox ($17.30) and B.E.C ($15.10).
The former includes fillings of smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, onions, capers and tomatoes, in pleasantly-soft and chewy textured bagels.
The B.E.C ($15.10) is a more indulgent treat of scrambled egg, bacon, double cheddar with spicy ketchup.
While I still very much enjoyed their bagels, be careful as it could be a very messy dining experience due to all the overflowing meat sauces.
