Keong Saik Bakery has come a long way since its opening in 2017, known for its ‘Sor Hei’ and Chendol Delight Cake back then.

They have unfortunately shifted out of Keong Saik Road and to Bendemeer, right opposite SYIP 2.0 at Luzerne Building.

It does seem strange Keong Saik Bakery is no longer at Keong Saik, but it is what it is due to the high rentals and increasing costs.

No worries, they are still retaining their old name and not renamed as “Bendemeer Bakery”.

You can also find another outlet Keong Saik Bakery at Chip Bee Garden (Holland Village), with %Arabica, Tiong Bahru Bakery, and Sunday Folks as neighbours.

The bakery café was first started by two friends Yuzhong and Beng Soon who met at Baker & Cook, and Beng Soon has moved on to set up his own at La Levain at Jalan Besar.

This current flagship outlet is more instagrammable, trendy and aesthetically pleasing with a Korean-cafe vibe.

From the metal cylindrical stools to cemented floors, potted plants and natural sunlight shining through the huge glass windows, there is an industrial feel that adds a rustic and unfinished touch to their interior.

On the left hand side, all the pastries are neatly placed on the table, which somehow reminds me of NUDAKE Haus Dosan in Seoul, allowing patrons to see the pastries up close.

Their aim is to be a bakery that bridges contemporary styles & techniques, with traditional and local flavours that invoke a hint of nostalgia.

Some of their signature bakes with nostalgic childhood favourites incorporated include Purple Milk (inspired by Pulut Hitam), Gula Jawa Sticky Rice Cake, Chendol Delight ($8.40), Attap Chee Rose Cheesecake ($8), Orh Nee Tart ($8.50) & Otak Otak Danish ($4.40).

Their best seller Chendol Delight ($8) is still around, and probably resonate well with the local customer base. Its presentation though, is very different from how it started in 2017.

It has rich and smooth gula melaka coconut custard embedded with red bean, attap chee and topped with pandan jelly, very much like eating chendol in a deconstructed cake form.

Matchaholics will not want to miss out on this Quattro Matcha ($8.80).

This is a triple-layered cake with whipped matcha salted caramel on top, matcha cheesecake in the middle, on top of a layer of matcha shortbread.

The matcha flavour is intense and not overwhelming, well-balanced with the different intensities between the layers, yet fragrant with distinctive tea notes.

Check out this beautiful blue cake, the Seashore 2.0 ($8.80) with a top layer of sea salt butterfly pea mousse and butterfly pea whipped ganache.

There is also a separate bottom layer of lightly-flavoured earl grey cheesecake, with earl grey shortbread cookie base adding that contrast in textures.

Over the years, Keong Saik Bakery has constantly been evolving to fit the cafe scene with local-inspired bakes having an old-school flavour, complete with a modern take.
