Playful takes on hot dogs are the specialty at this café. The concept of JUMBADOG can probably be summed up this way – think Subway or fast food for hotdogs.

Have the house dogs or build your own, whichever you prefer. But really, we are just grateful for a proper hotdog-and-milkshake place in Singapore.

The cafe concept was born right here in Singapore just two years ago, located at NEWest.

If you are wondering what “NEWest” is, it is a mixed-development mall at West Coast with F&B such as Birdfolks, Springleaf Prata Place, Fatburger & Buffalo’s, Hakata Japanese Restaurant, Peacock North Indian Cusine, and Burnt Cones Gelato.

In fact, I initially wanted to visit Waffletown (but it was closed) so I made my way next door instead in order not to waste the trip.

I liked how colourful and playful the interior was, with an actual operating “Space Invaders” game machine to bring you back to your childhood days (depending on how old you are).

There is another second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, and it takes on a kiosk concept at the basement. Prices and offerings differ slightly here.

The brand ambitiously incorporates flavours from all over the world, to take the humble hotdog to the next level.

On the menu are more than 10 choices from Classic Dog, Dijon Dog, Kimchi Dog, Nacho Dog, Fire Dog, Kampung Dog, to Trufflicious Dog.

If none of the house dogs are your cup of tea, you can just build your own. This is the fun part.

Pick a bun, a sausage, three toppings and two sauces. At the base level, it comes out to $11.90, the same price as a basic house dog.

Some choices like having the bratwurst (+$2) takes a little more.

JUMBADOG

Going through the house dogs, one recommendation is the Tako Dog ($11.90). This is obviously done Japanese style, with tobiko, bonito, nori, and takoyaki sauce.

The ‘dog is elevated by the use of fluffy Brioche, lightly toasted.

When I had it, it reminded me of an Okonomiyaki-meets-Hotdog combination. I loved the fluffy bun and sauces; while the sausage could have been slightly juicier, it still had a tasty bite.

Something more traditional is the Dodger Dog ($11.90), comprising a Cheese hotdog, raw onion, relish, ketchup and mustard. This is something similar to what you might get off a street stand in the States.

Likewise, The Brat ($13.90) is a slightly more premium house dog with German influences. You will find a meaty bratwurst with tangy sauerkraut and yellow mustard to top.

Get one of the sides available on the menu to go with the dog. Something like the Sloppy Fries ($7.90) is a delight, as it is topped with beef bolognese, cheese and sour cream.

On the drinks side, a Milkshake ($6.90) goes perfect with a footlong hotdog: strawberry, mango, oreo, chocolate are the blends for the non-alcoholic options.

If not, there is always coffee.
