Hands up if you have been to Orchard Plaza recently. Orchard where?

Even though the building is situated in the heart of Somerset, it is not as snazzy as some of the other neighbouring malls, filled with tailor shops, KTV bars, massage parlours, and the likes.

I was there for food, and found Miss Saigon which is a Vietnamese Banh Mi eatery that stands out for its 24/7 opening hours.

Banh Mi available from day till night? Bring it on.

This authentic-looking establishment was opened by the same team behind Banh Mi Saigon, a popular Banh Mi spot in Ang Mo Kio.

With a focus on providing authentic Vietnamese flavors, Miss Saigon offers a range of Banh Mi options, Vietnamese food and snacks.

Even though it is a relatively new stall, you would find yourself caught in time with its retro-setting, and can certainly imagine yourself being in Vietnam with the décor and music.

Walking into Miss Saigon, you are greeted by shelves filled with an assortment of Vietnamese snacks, goodies, and cup noodles.

This adds a delightful touch to the dining experience, allowing customers to explore and indulge in Vietnamese flavours beyond just the sandwiches.

The menu at Miss Saigon boasts an impressive selection of 14 different Banh Mi styles, ensuring there is something to suit every taste preference.

From Pork Dumplings, Grilled BBQ Pork, Shredded Pork Skin, Fried Fish Cake to Roasted Pork, the variety is truly enticing.

However, the true specialty of Miss Saigon lies in their Banh Mi Truyen Thong ($8.90), filled with a delightful mixture of ham.

What sets Miss Saigon apart is their commitment to crafting everything in-house, including the house-baked Vietnamese-style baguettes.

However, as ingredients are transported from the main store at Ang Mo Kio, I reckon to order their sandwiches over say mains of Pho and other noodles.

These baguette was considerably light and crispy, slightly warm to the touch, and provided that satisfying crunch with every bite.

The balance between the soft interior and the crisp crust was what I really enjoyed.

The Banh Mi received a generous smear of pate, house-made ham which added a rich and savoury flavour.

This is then topped with crunchy pickled carrots and cucumber, adding a refreshing element and varying textures to the overall taste.

To enhance the flavour profile further, scallion oil and spices which added that touch of heat made it even better.

The combination of the freshly baked bread, the succulent fillings, and the vibrant toppings created a satisfying explosion of taste in your mouth.

With all that said, I somehow preferred the taste over at Banh Mi Saigon slightly better.

Oh yes, be warned about the coffee which is very strong (and kept me awake while typing this post).
