If you are a frequent visitor to the famed Yaowarat Street at Chinatown Bangkok, then this dish of Thai Kway Chap or Kuay Jab should be a familiar one.

Guay Jub Ouan Pochana and Nai Ek Roll Noodle are some of the famous shops you can find in Bangkok.

Now in Singapore, you can find Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap both at Upper Serangoon Road (Kovan) and a newly-opened eatery at Tiong Bahru Plaza basement.

Note that the local outlets are not related to the Bangkok ones.

Over at Tiong Bahru Plaza, you can find the Signature Thai Kway Chap ($6.80) with peppery broth – though I found this lighter and less kick than the ones in Thailand.

Accompanying the rice noodle sheets are assorted meats like chewy chunks of Thai fish sausage and deep-fried Thai pork belly sio bak style.

The comforting warmth of this light, peppery broth is reminiscent of bak kut teh but milder, complemented with silky smooth kway uniquely curled up on the edges.

Alternatively, you can order just the Plain Kway Chap ($3.50) to be accompanied with side dishes of Deep-Fried Thai Pork Belly ($8, $10), Thai Boiled Pork Belly ($8, $10), Fried Large Intestines ($10, $12), Thai Fish Sausage ($8, $10) and Thai Fried Beancurd ($4).

The recommend to get is the Deep-Fried Thai Pork Belly ($8, $10) made with thick cuts of pork belly with that perfect fat-to-meat ratio, this well-seasoned dish is deep-fried to create layers of flavour and texture.

With a lean meau, this simple cash-only eatery is fuss-free and allows you to have a quick Thai Kway Chap meal in air-conditioned comfort.
