In what was Golden Mile Complex, almost any Thai food is guaranteed to hit the spot.

It is a dream come true to find out that many of these eateries have managed to relocate to another spot to continue its business.

Flying Pig is one of them, joining the ranks of other re-homed shops such as Tha Chang Noodle Bar, Golden Banana, and Thai Supermarket Singapore.

In their old place, the eatery was recognisable by the hand-painted plates decorating the wall, and also – of course – the image of a pig with wings on the signboard.

At its new City Gate outlet, the scrappy and rustic vibes are no longer there.

Comfortable padded loungers replaced the hard wooden chairs and the properly enclosed space gives it better air conditioning.

Although you will still find the hand-painted plates displayed proudly on the walls.

Flying Pig got rather viral at one point in time due to its Thai Omelette Fried Rice With Crab ($12). It was then $10, but the $2 increase in price is perfectly understandable.

The generous crab meat is a star ingredient in this dish, providing a subtle sweetness and delicate brininess that complements the other components.

It never gets old looking at the voluptuous plate of fried rice. The rice is evenly encased by the omelette, which is topped with a generous volume of crab meats.

While crab meat is usually stir-fried with rice, this was piled on top offering more bursts of juicy seafood goodness.

Sometimes, I might even forget about the fried rice and just go straight to picking at the crab meat.

The other highlight of this dish is the omelette that crowns the fried rice, seasoned with a dash of fish sauce and soy sauce, giving it a savory note.

It was cooked until fluffy and slightly golden, providing a creamy contrast to the rice – which to me was more ordinary and could have more ‘wok-hei’

If you come in a pair, consider having the Buddy Set ($38).

It comes with a Crab & Prawn Omelette Fried Rice, Fried Kang Kong, Tom Yum Clear Soup with Basil Leaf or Tom Yum Kung, and two drinks.

Whichever Tom Yum floats your boat, it comes with two giant whole prawns that is more than enough to satisfy.

However, I did find this on the greasy and spicy side – which is apparent from the photos.

Beyond the set menu, there are plenty of individual dishes to pick up.

For salads, the Papaya Salad ($8) and Mango Salad ($8) are certified classics. Feeling adventurous? Go for the Flower Crab Salad ($20) or Seafood Salad ($25).

For curries, have the mellower Yellow Curry with Crab or Prawn ($15) or the spicier Panang Curry with Pork or Chicken ($12). Remember to get a bowl of rice to go with it.

Shoutout to the Moo Ping ($6), an affordable plate of pork skewers that has the effect of really shooting up your appetite before the heftier meals.

It is good to see Flying Pig still serving affordable Thai food and Fried Rice, and this time we hope it stays for good.
