A poke shop has taken over a bingsu place at United Square Novena. Perhaps a representation of the change of food trends, from a previously popular food to another.
Poke LuLu should be number 20-something poké bowl shops in Singapore, and I hear from the grapevine there are even more coming up. Hardly surprising?
It is located at a seemingly family and kids centric United Square, and has also opened at Oxley Tower in the CBD.
From the appearance and offerings, this poke bowl eatery does not seem to differ much from the others.
They have used some of the furnishing of the previous bingsu shop, so it has a café-like setting.
Customers can choose from three bowl sizes – small ($11.90), medium ($15.90) and large ($19.90) with white rice, brown rice or salad as the bases.
The salmon and tuna fish cubes are marinated in original, spicy and wasabi mayo sauces.
Each bowl comes with three complimentary add-on such as tobiko (flying fish roe), almonds, seaweed nori, jalapenos; with one super food add-on – choose from avocado, chia sees, ikura or quail egg. (Since when quail egg is considered a superfood?)
To be honest, while I liked the spicy marinate of the fishes, I found it hard to differentiate this brand from most of the others.
The more popularpoké bowl shops in Singapore have some distinguishing factors such as bigger variety of tasty marinates, generous portions, or have that welcoming vibes.
With that said, the good thing about Poke LuLu is that they have a self-service station for diners to freely add more sauces (wafu, goma, olive oil, thousand island) as well as kimchi and ginger slices.

They’re clearly cheating customers of the food portions they claim to sell. Bought two Medium Poke bowls with 150g of poke each. Came home and weighed them to find each bowl only had 77g and 79g respectively. This is blatant cheating and taking advantage of customers. Buyers, take your money elsewhere.
