It was a ‘far’ trip down south to the Sentosa Island, all the way through to Sentosa Golf Club. All for the reason of food, and maybe more.

Panamericana is a casual grill and bar, focused on cuisines found in the 14 countries along the sprawling 50,000km of the Pan-American Highway that stretches through the North, Central and South Americas.

Without saying, the vibes here was different from the rest of casual restaurants on the main island we are used to.

Walking in, grill concept restaurant felt like a resort home of a wealthy family.

As to the key difference between this and some of the more ‘colonial’ buildings in Singapore, there is a breezy terrace, bright open space and garden with panoramic views.

It can be a good idea to come nearing sunset hours.

I just sat there, imaging the lifestyle of the rich and famous as you can spot golf courses and ships in a distance. You get that idea.

In terms of food, the restaurant specializes in farm-to-fire cuisine, offering grilled whole meats, greens, grains, alongside fresh seafood, game and street foods typical of the region.

The menu wasn’t that wide-ranging, but that should be some items that catch your fancy.

For starters, you get a choice Corn ($12) grilled Cuban-style, with chilli citrus salt and manchego; Roasted Bone Marrow ($14) with eschallot-thyme confit, sourdough; Charred Broccolini ($15) with chimichurri, walnuts; and Ceviche ($16) of snapper, paw paw, citrus, coconut milk, chilli, coriander.

The mains include 7-hour slow roasted Lamb ($50, 350g); Land & Sea ($28) of crispy pork belly, scallops, chipotle caramel, jicama salsa; whole-grilled, chilli glaze Colombian Chicken ($28) and Ribeye Steak ($40, 250g).

It is recommended to start off with a couple of small plates, followed by grilled offerings.

The British Columbia Salad ($14.00) made a refreshing start to the meal, primary of shredded red cabbage salad, with dates and apple adding varying sweetness.

Synonymous with menus across Chile and Peru, the Snapper Ceviche ($16) was contained a balance of flavours and was both lightly citrusy and spicy.

The Land & Sea ($28) was a perfect combination as my friend wanted scallops, and I had cravings for something more substantial in the form of crispy pork belly.

Both were well-prepared – one’s succulent and the other tender; and the jicama salsa added some kick.

Will try the Whole Colombian Chicken ($40) basted in a sweet-chilli glaze the next time.

The real deal really, is the superb 180 degree view of Sentosa Golf Club and South China Sea to be enjoyed in the comfortable and breezy verandah area.

Quite an escape.
