Situated conveniently near Redhill MRT station at ARTRA, Mario’s Ristorante and Caffe promises a casual Italian-fusion dining experience.

But first, do not come expecting the welcome embrace from a beloved Italian nonna, but perhaps something more fast-casual with family-friendly atmosphere.

It reminded me a little of Saizeriya and Pastamania in terms of price point and perhaps its target audience. Just to get you a little bit more mentally prepared.

The menu encompasses a selection of pasta, pizza, baked rice, grilled meats, soups, and desserts.

Unless you are strict about dietary preferences for the kids, you would be able to find something for them here.

The affordability of the fare is one of Mario’s crowning glories, but do be prepared to wait during busy meal hours.

For example, they have a Grilled Chicken Steak, affordable priced at $6.90 in an air-conditioned environment.

Other mains include Fish and Chips ($8.90), Hollandaise Salmon ($12.90), Beef Burger ($9.90), and Angus Ribeye ($16.90).

The appetisers, although not particularly innovative, hold their ground with the staples.

There are the are Cheese French Fries ($3.90), Calamari ($4.90), Fried Shrimp Roll ($5.50), Fried Chicken Wings ($6.90), to Cheese Sticks ($7.50).

The Fried Chicken Wings ($6.90), were comparable to say what you would buy from a supermarket to be deep-fried, crisp but unremarkable.

You couldn’t really fault the pizzas for its pricing.

The Classic Bolognese Pizza is priced at $7.90. Others include the Norway Smoked Salmon Arugula ($10.90), Margherita ($11.90), to Shrimp Pizza ($11.90).

The Hawaiian Pineapple Pizza ($8.90) was thin-crusted and adequate to be shared for 2 pax, though not particularly memorable.

The pasta offerings were plentiful and varied, starting with Tomato Cheese Pasta priced at a very reasonable $4.80.

The Laksa Prawn Pasta ($13.90) sounded interesting though underwhelming.

While the fusion idea was unexpected for a place called “Mario’s”, the dish required a richer, more aromatic sauce for the ‘Laksa’ element to be more pronounced.

The drinks menu, with discounted prices during lunch hours, was a welcome touch.

This feature, coupled with free drinks for children aged 0-6 and a flat rate of $1.50 for children aged 6-11, is a testament to Mario’s commitment to family-friendly dining.

A place that won’t break the bank.
